My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

March 2016 update: Now that we are getting to know Belle here in Maine, we can tell you she is a big silly puppy. She needed some refreshing on housetraining and she is almost there. Her foster mom takes her right out after eating, when waking up, and any time she comes out of her crate, always sure to celebrate Belle’s successes. In typical puppy fashion, Belle will pick up anything she can get her mouth on so she is crated when not directly supervised.

Belle is super playful with the other dogs in her home (two large males) and is working on her manners. She will jump on them and when they tell her to cut it out she will not always listen the first time. She will do the same with people at first so needs to have clear leadership from all the humans in her life. She knows what “off” means.

Belle is definitely energetic and needs outlets for her energy so that her “big girl manners” will shine. She hasn’t always had all the attention a puppy should have, so we are changing that now and giving her positive outlets.

She met a cat in a supervised setting and was interested but not aggressive. She came nose to nose with the cat and was excited for sure. She will need continued training before she could ever be left alone with a cat. She has met some children and been excited, we’re sure she might knock down a little one with her excitement. She would do well in the home with a mature dog to teach her the ropes and who will be patient with her.

We have brought Belle to adoption events with us and she is the life of the party. We think she is just a darling dog who will do wonderfully in the right active home.

February: Belle is a precious 8 month old (at the end of February) girl who is a Lab/Blue Heeler mix according to her former family. She is great with other dogs and kids, she lives happily with a 3 year old child. There are feral cats on the property and Belle is fine with them but she has not lived with cats. She will chase squirrels from the fenced yard so her response to small animals is a bit mixed.

Belle’s story is an all too common one, her owners moved and couldn’t take her. Instead of doing the right thing, they left her behind in the house alone. Luckily in just a few days someone stopped by and she was rescued. She is a sturdy girl at about 55 lbs and could use a little bit of weight loss.

In foster with us, Belle is living with other dogs and doing great. She is a big player, and also loves to give kisses to her humans. She will do great with an active family. Belle hopes her next family will be forever!

Please note, we do not have a physical facility where our dogs are housed, they are cared for in our network of wonderful foster homes throughout New England. If you find a dog you would like to meet, our expectation is that, once approved, you will travel to meet the dog in the foster setting where they are feeling safe and loved.

Thank you for considering rescue!
