Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Charlie's Story...
Charlie found himself in CEBR’s care after being hit by a car. Charlie's initial x-rays did not show any obvious breaks, but Charlie's back legs aren't fully functioning. Within in a matter of seconds Charlie went from being an active, carefree bulldog to suddenly paralyzed and unsure of how to move himself about. Despite knowing this was going to be a big undertaking (literally – Charlie is nearly 90lbs, and figuratively- MRI’s, wheels and physical therapy are not free) CEBR immediately took in Charlie knowing we would find a way to get him the help he needed. Charlie was treated at one of their amazing vets and then taken over to a specialty center for MRI’s of his spine and head.
The results of Charlie's MRI's showed that, unfortunately, Charlie most likely was born with many malformed vertebrae and the impact of being hit by a car acutely worsened his spinal condition. The hope is by reducing the inflammation in his spine and by allowing the spine time to heal Charlie will regain lower body function. At this point only time will tell, but that’s not going to stop us from trying everything we can do get this big guy walking again!
Since the accident Charlie has reached some MAJOR milestones:
Charlie began to wag his tail when happy!
Charlie has regained function of his bowels and bladder where he is now able to control when he has a bowel movement or needs to urinate. This may sound minimal, but Charlie was reliant on a catheter up until this progress was reached.
Charlie can stand on his own, unassisted for up to 8 minutes!
Charlie was fitted for a custom set of wheels to assist him with the freedom to be a “mobile” dog
Charlie began physical therapy, acupuncture and electric stimulation therapy to aid in his recovery
We are very hopeful with the progress that Charlie is making and want to continue to do all we can for him. While it may not be fast, it is progress and we are so proud to see Charlie moving forward on the road to recovery!
We are committed to giving each and every one of the Bulldogs we take in a great new life, but we can't do it without your help. We are very grateful for the generosity of our supporters and we are reaching out to you once again because we know you love bulldogs as much as we do. Please consider contributing to Team Charlie to help us complete our mission of helping him on a road to recovery.
No donation is too small. Any amount that you can contribute will go a long way to helping him heal. A special medical fund has been set up and your donation will sponsor their care.
