My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

An adoption application on JONES can be found at the following link: http://wp.me/P73YMd-1h
Please email the completed application to weatherley.woofriver@gmail.com.
Please submit an application AND do NOT also contact the shelter. You will be contacting both the adoption coordinator and the marketing director, who do not see each other's emails. This causes confusion.

JONES is such a fun and gentle giant! He is about 7.5 months old (2/17/16) and already 80 lbs! He loves all people and dogs big and small. His dog skills are absolutely impeccable making him a fan favorite at doggie day care. JONES lives in a foster home with 2 children and is just great with them. Of course he could easily knock a small child over without meaning to do so. JONES is a true gentle giant who is always smiling. He loves other creatures so much that he is unhappy when left with no humans or other dogs. He thrives on companionship. He knows not to potty in the house and he adores car rides. He has also already completed level 1 obedience! He hasn't met any cats while with us as Woof River so we don't know if he is as flawless with kitties as he is with everyone else. JONES is a truly happy and special dog. His forever family will be hitting the doggie jackpot!

JONES is microchipped and up to date on all vaccinations. JONES is not neutered because he is a cryptorchid. This means one of his testicles hasn't dropped into his scrotum. We consulted 2 different veterinarians, and both said that he needs to wait until he is a year old to be neutered. They said that when trying to neuter an extra large breed cryptorchid prior to being a year old, they often are unable to locate the testicle that didn't descend. If this happens, they have to put the dog under anesthesia and attempt the neuter again when he is older. They both advised against setting a dog up for 2 neuter surgeries. They said as he gets older the testicle will move farther towards the rear of the dog and the neuter will be able to be successfully performed.
His $450 adoption fee includes interstate health certificate and transport to the Midwest.

We are diligent in ensuring gorgeous giants like JONES go to homes which understand them and will love them forever. If you have young children and no experience with large or extra large pups, we are unable to approve you for adoption.

All of our dogs start their journey in Memphis, Tennessee where they remain in loving foster families until they are adopted. Once adopted, they travel via one of our transport partners to their new forever homes. We use Alpha Dog Pet Transport for our New England, Nashville, and Knoxville adoptions (https://alphadogtransport.com) and The Road Home Pet Transport for our Midwest adopters (https://www.facebook.com/roadhomepettransport).

Breed selection is done in conjunction with two local vets and is not to be considered a guarantee but rather a well-educated decision from well qualified staff.

Due to the extremely high volume of inquiries we receive, we ask that you request, complete, and submit an application before asking additional questions. We try very hard to include all pertinent information in our bios. We are excited to help you find your new family member. However, Woof River is 100% volunteer operated. We want to spend our time saving dogs and assisting those adopters who have taken the time to complete an application. Thank you for understanding.
