Email rescuer, Anna, direct at annaduffy@yahoo.com Oscar is in the Reno area. Oscar looks like a little red fox or a mini shepherd. We think his mix is Corgi and Shepherd. He is knee high and weighs about 40/ 45 lbs. Oscar is an excellent work at home buddy. He has settled in now to his foster home and is really starting to become a house dog. Oscar is about 2 years old, neutered and micro-chipped. He spent his first 2 years as an outside dog with little to no training. We are currently teaching him to be a house dog. Oscar will make a great companion for someone that wants an active dog that can take on adventures with exuberance and can settle in later and be a supportive companion when working from home. With diligent training, Oscar can be anything ...he loves, loves, loves hugs and snuggles. With training, being an emotional support dog could be in his future. He is sharp and intelligent with lots of energy, so could be an agility boy? He will need to be slowly introduced to cats or a home with no cats is good. He gets along well with female dogs and male dogs depending on how "Alpha" they are. Oscar will stand-up for himself, then settle in after a while to the pecking order. I would not suggest households with small toy size dog as he has big feet and he is a mini tank. He will knock over small children too when he gets excited. Oscar has survived a euthanasia date, now he needs to find his forever human(s). Please note, this is not a "free dog" situation. Any potential adopter will need to complete an application, including listing the name of your vet for current/previous animals. A home visit may be required and if you have any pets they must meet Oscar first to make sure the are compatible. A donation to the shelter Oscar was pulled from is required. Additionally, an experienced pet owner that understands this dog needs to be exercised and challenged, is a good fit. Training is a must for Oscar. This will allow him to have a long and happy life with his new family...And yes, he is worth the effort upfront.
