Elmo has been adopted! -- Please look at our other Rat Terriers awaiting homes!

Elmo came from a shelter in East Texas when his time ran out, and is now safe in his Connecticut foster home. Elmo is a very skinny 9 pounds, and our vets think he is about 3 or 4 years old. Elmo is very shy at first, but warms up quickly. He loves his comfy crate and is already crate trained and working hard on his house training. He was probably a yard dog, but he has learned quickly that indoors is the place to be! When outdoors, though, he'll need a fenced yard. He plays with toys like a puppy and with the young dogs in his foster home. Elmo is a type 'B' rat terrier, which means he has short little legs. You don't have to live on Sesame Street to love Elmo!

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Elmo, a Winston-Salem Rat Terrier dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Rat Terrier for sale in Winston-Salem, or seeking a Rat Terrier dog from a breeder in Winston-Salem.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Winston-Salem already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Winston-Salem breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Rat Terrier breeders who help with Rat Terrier rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Winston-Salem paves the way for another one to be saved.
