My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Before calling about this dog, please read our adoption requirements at http://gsrne.org/requirements-for-adopting-from-gsrne
Everyone who has met Harley has commented on his energy level, which is high. This can be a challenge, but it will also make him a fun companion for an active and energetic adopter!
Harley was sold by a pet store; and when he was about 4 ½ months old, his owner decided to post him online, “Free to a good home.” Knowing that he could fall into the wrong hands, another rescue took custody and then decided he definitely needed an adopter with GSD experience.
In his foster home, Harley has learned some important lessons about personal space and self-control. At first, he didn’t understand either; he would jump on people for attention, climb on the furniture and was mouthy with everything, including his foster parents. After two months of consistent training and leadership, though, Harley is on his way to becoming the dog he was meant to be. He is still wary of unfamiliar objects when outside and will startle at a loud noise, seeing a trash can at the curb, something blowing along the sidewalk. He can be rude when meeting another dog and might try to start a wrestling match without a proper greeting. He is a work in progress!
He does have a happy, curious and playful personality and really enjoys his three walks a day. He’s a natural-born recycler and will pick up a discarded plastic bottle, paper cup or crumpled paper and carry it all the way home. He eagerly jumps into the car for a ride and will lie down in the back seat until you reach your destination. He has gotten used to staying in his crate while his foster parents are at work, and they have a nanny-cam set up so they can see how he’s doing. When one of them gets home, Harley is ready to go. After a good walk, he likes to play fetch in the yard and then with a squeaky toy in the house. After some quiet time, he works for his dinner by pushing around a food-dispensing toy to make the kibble fall out a little at a time. This keeps him from eating too fast as well as allowing him to “hunt” for his food.
The ideal adopter for Harley will enjoy providing him with daily exercise and mental stimulation, know how to be a kind and consistent leader and be prepared to have some fun with this active boy.
