My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

My name Is Kalani and I'm originally from Maui. I like it here in WA because there are lots of woods and rivers for me to run around and play in. I'm a 4-5 yr. old Black Lab mix, weigh about 51 lbs., and really like to play with and be around other dogs. Oh, and I did I mention, I love to play fetch! I'm pretty shy with people when I first meet them, but once I know you, I love to cuddle. I'm a very nice, quiet, and easy-going boy.

Kalani comes with a story. Once on the mainland, he was quickly adopted, and a couple of days later, the new adopters were forcefully pushing him back into the house, and he turned and bit the person on the hand, then supposedly ran into the house and killed their parrot. Because of this incident, the city of Seattle has deemed him a dangerous dog and he is not allowed back in the city.

Kalani was dumped at the shelter in Hawaii, separated from his brother, then flown on an airplane, only to come to another shelter, adopted into a house with a squawking, talking bird, then shoved into the house, all within a matter of a few days! Of course, he would be stressed and nervous, and our theory is that Kalani was freaked out by the bird, and didn’t want to go back into the house. Since he's been with us, we've noticed that he is definitely scared to go back inside so we gently encourage him and let him know he's safe and he's just fine.

We have now rec'd. all the paperwork in relation to this incident, and the adopter took this dog on a walk, after having just brought him home, and decided to take the pet parrot in his other hand, while struggling with the leash in the other. Very chaotic to say the least. Sadly, we have also discovered that this individual has some serious mental health issues and this dog should not have to pay the price for that.

He LOVES to play with other dogs, is extremely gentle and loving.

There were no issues with him at either the Hawaii shelter or the Seattle humane society. They never would have put him on the adoption floor if there were. What we have seen is a very gentle, kind, somewhat skittish dog that doesn’t make a sound. He likes other dogs, has met all sizes, allows you to play with his feet, pull his tail, push him gently, stick your fingers in his mouth, and was great with the vet drawing blood.

There simply are no issues. We feel the categorization of this dog is incredibly unfair and in our opinion, quite ridiculous. But, due to legalities, we must disclose this information to any potential adopter.
