My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

CINDY is a 9 year old spayed black female Lab who weighs 65 pounds. Cindy is a 9 year old girl that's on the mend. Both Cindy and her owner were hurt when her previous owner fell and landed on Cindy. Her owner is still in the hospital and unable to take care of Cindy so she became part of the Lab Rescue family. Luckily for Cindy, she did not have any broken bones but does have bruising and arthritis. So, medication and time to heal are what this girl needs. You can tell that she still has spunk and she wants (and has tried) to run but she needs to take it easy for now. Cindy is a sweet healthy girl that weighs 65 pounds and is Ehrlichia positive. She is being treated for it and is on meds for her arthritis as well as some for treating her pain. She rides well in the car and loves to occasionally stick her nose out the window to feel the breeze. She crates like a dream and loves to be loved on. She hasn't had any accidents in the house and is able to get up and down the 4 steps to get to the back yard with no problem. Cindy is a good rider and easy on leash. She is crate and house trained. Good with other dogs. She is approved for kids 10+.

Update: Cindy, aka Cinderella, Cindy Lou, or Cinder Cone as her foster family calls her! She's a snuggle couch potato who loves short walks, lying in the sun, and guarding the front door with her foster brother so the humans can't escape. She's a bit rickety, but full of love and excitement for any smell that wafts past her nose. Riding in the car is one of her favorite things--she can only do three or four stairs, but she'll try her darndest to jump into the car at any opportunity!

Update: Cindy spent the weekend with a new foster family, to include two male resident labs (1.5 yr old black lab and 10 yr old yellow lab). She did fabulous! Her legs may not be as great as they used to be, but she took the steps to the backyard at her own pace. Once she was down the steps, she enjoyed her time in the yard....to include chasing around the younger 1.5 year old lab. We had a neighborhood party with about 15 people and she didn't seem to mind. She went on two walks a day....only a few blocks...but kept up with the other dogs with no problem! Cindy was very easy on the leash! She was very content in the house and enjoyed relaxing on the dog beds....no attempt to get on the furniture. Cindy slept throughout the entire night, and had no desire to get up at 6am with the resident dogs....she definitely enjoyed her beauty sleep. She's fairly quiet, but does "talk" when she wants something....to go outside, when she's hungry, or when she wasn't quite sure where in the house we are. Cindy is slowing down a bit, but perfect if you're looking for a companion that is low maintenance

Update:: Cindy is doing great! She's an ideal house guest and settled right in when she arrived. She declared ownership of one of the dog beds and holds court from there most of the time! She hangs out in our sun room when we're gone for a while (so my dog doesn't pester her), but they both have free reign of the house most of the time. Cindy gets along great with my dog. She knows how to politely set boundaries when he's too exuberant, but often tries to romp with him in the back yard at the end of the day. I'd say she'd be excellent with other calm dogs, but she wouldn't hate to be the only star of the show.

Update: Cindy's Chimings:
Hi everyone, Cindy here. This week has been very busy for me. You see, I'm getting ready to be moved to what foster mom calls Adoption Central now that I'm pretty much healed. On Saturday Foster Mom and Dad are meeting up with Em Rowe in Culpeper and she is going to take me to my new foster Mom named Meredith in Arlington. I love it here and I know they love me but it is just way to busy here. Now that my RVA Angels have made sure I'm go to go, I need a little quieter place. You know I was raised being an only dog with my senior owner so I guess at 9 years old I kinda like a little quieter and less hectic/chaotic living accommodations. I get along with the gang here but I really prefer to be the center of attention....you know, do all the cuddling and get all the loving. I'm REALLY good at that too; especially on the sofa.
Foster Mom and Dad are happy that I'm finally starting to put on a little weight. Yesterday I weighed 67.3# at the vet. It took them awhile to figure out I like cheap canned dog food (Pedigree or Gravy Train) mixed in with my quality kibble. In the mornings I get a scrambled egg with cheese mixed in. Foster Mom thought that she could get away without it this morning but both Suzie and I protested until it was added. Yep, we ate our food then! Silly woman that Foster Mom is.
Don't forget I'm available for adoption. I'm 9 years old and pretty healthy. I'm crate trained and walk well on the leash. I'm a great car rider. Call your AC and learn about me! See you soon!

Update:: Cindy's Chimings: (Foster Friday)
Good morning everyone, Cindy here. Things are going well with my recovery. I now can run and chase my canine foster siblings. Granted they are a lot faster than me and boy that Jackson can turn on a dime! I'm still a picky eater but Foster Mom has created this meal that I just love. She takes some eggs and cheese and scrambles them. Well then she will put some canned food or sliced turkey and mix it with my kibble and yogurt. Yep, eat that up almost everytime. The only medication I'm on now is my Gabapetin for my arthritis and I'm taking Dasequin. Foster Mom breaks that up and wraps it in thinly sliced turkey. Boy, do I have her pegged! I do have some Deramaxx to take as needed. You know,...there are some days you are more crickety than others. My most favorite thing to do is to cuddle up on the sofa especially if I'm next to you. I'm almost healed from my previous owner falling on me.
So, I'm available for adoption. I would prefer to be an only dog or have a canine sibling that isn't too busy. I'm crate trained and house broken. I'm looking for someone who needs a semi-couch potato that wants to be looked at with adoring eyes and loves to love on me. If I sound like I could be your loving senior (9 years of age) girl, call your AC to come visit me in Lynchburg!
Love,
Cindy

Update: Cindy's Chimings:
Hello everyone. Thought I would drop in and give everyone an update but first, don't you love this warmer weather? It feels so good laying on the warm concrete stoop in the afternoon after the sun has warmed it up. I continue to improve and my appetite is top notch. I get excited when they fix my dog food and I love eating it up. Foster Mom and Dad are mixing my kibble with some canned food, yogurt and a little bit of water. Oh my goodness, it's yummy! Foster Mom thinks I was fed human food because I've tried to beg at the kitchen table. I've been told no mooching at the table but I can mooch at the sofa! When I wasn't hungry (pain and a lot of medication made me feel horrible), Foster Mom and Dad tried almost everything to get me to eat. What they came with was my beloved turkey, stinky fish type food, hot dogs, chicken, ham, cheesy poofs, chicken in a biskit crackers and processed yellow american cheese. I don't like peanut butter but Foster Mom says she's going to try to give it to me later just to make sure.
Just a reminder, I'm 9 years old and I'm still healing from when my previous owner fell on me sending both of us to the hospital. No broken bones for me but I was bruised. I've started acupunture and chiropractic care and I'm gong to be evaluated for Laser therapy. Thank you RVA Angels. I'm unknown on cats. I get along with the dogs here but really love snuggling up with Foster Mom. Don't forget, I'm available for adoption so call your AC to find out more about me and maybe come visit me in Lynchburg!
Love,
Cindy

Update: Cindy is enjoying the time in her foster home and with her foster brother! She'll play pounce him on her rickety old legs and he'll do zoomies that screech to a halt right at her feet. When she's feeling extra spry she'll chase him around the yard and he'll run at half speed so she can keep up. She has also grown more confident on stairs and no longer has trouble, even when it's wet outside. We can tell she's getting stronger and feeling better. We even went on a few walks with her! Cindy isn't very good on the leash, but she's so old and slow that she's easy to manage despite all of her zig zagging. We go a little less than a mile, and she is excited and peppy almost the whole way. She only slows down when we have to walk up a big hill to get back home. Cindy is really adorable when she asks for pets and scratches. She'll walk up to you and bonk her head into your knee so you can scratch her ears, or she'll turn around and give a big lab lean if she wants rump scratches. When she's lying on a dog bed, she loves belly rubs, and if you stop, she gently puts a paw on your arm to tell you to keep going.
