My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Winter is a tan, 2 year old, 15 lbs Wire-haired Dachsund/terrier single mom who has just finished raising her litter of 5. You know how it is when all the kids leave home, you have Empty Nest syndrome and you need something to fill your time. Well, Winter would like a forever home and a loving family to fill those long puppyless hours. Winter is very gentle, sweet and almost clingy. In fact, we would say that she is a little nervous and anxious right now. She can be shy at first, especially when she is walking on the leash and other dogs bark at her, but she warms up quickly. She is medium or low energy and gets along fine with other dogs when not leashed. In fact, she is livelier and has more confidence when she is with another dog.

She is an absolute angel to bathe and walk and she is housebroken as long as she is taken out 3/4 times a day. She takes a while to respond to commands but she does well with treat training. She loves treats! She also loves playing and running around chasing a tennis ball. She just always wants to be near her “person” and she would do well with someone who is home a lot or would take her with them if they need to be gone for long hours. She is so quiet and gentle, you wouldn’t even know she was in an office or work setting. She is crate trained and has some separation anxiety when left alone, whether or not she is crated. She may whine or bark a little when left alone but we are working with her on that. She is an all around sweet, affectionate young lady who just wants to love and be loved.
