My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

THIS IS A COURTESY LISTING. ADR is not responsible for the health, temperament, behavior or placement of this dog. Listings are done at the request of the dog's owner and as an outreach and community service in hopes of finding these dogs a loving, stable forever home. Placement decisions are made solely at the discretion of the owner, and not Austin Dog Rescue. Owners are required to ask for an adoption fee from adopters.

This is the information that we received from Arya's current family:

We adopted our do,g Arya, from the Williamson County Animal Shelter a year ago. She is incredibly sweet and very smart. She has gone through obedience and agility training.

We found out after the adoption that my husband is allergic to her. We've tried everything we can do to make things work; however, he is getting worse, and is now coughing and wheezing. Unfortunately, we are needing to re-home her.

Arya, is a 1.5-year-old spayed Australian Kelpie with a black and tan coat. She gets along well with other dogs and with older children. I have not seen her with cats, so I'm not sure how she would do with them. Her energy level is very high! She runs in the morning about 3 miles, and by the afternoon, is ready for some other activity.

Arya is not crate-trained, but she does know her "room," and will go to it when we leave. She is a regular at doggy daycare and the local dog park. She does have some anxiety issue that we are working to resolve. She gets a little anxious when she's dropped off at daycare, but calms down quickly. She's never destructive, except with a fluffy toy.

Arya is leash-trained, although when she's excited, she likes to pull. She is also great in the house, with excellent house manners, and she's potty-trained. She will on occasion submissively urinate when she's scared. Leaving the house is not a problem as she's comfortable in her room. My husband and I work from home, so we are with her all day.

In my mind, her ideal home would include another well-rounded dog to keep her company, and to keep her calm. An active person or family, who is home most of the day and who is familiar with the herding breed, would be ideal as well. Again, she is a high-energy girl, and needs lots of exercise to be happy. Someone willing to do agility with her would be amazing!

At this point we're both really concerned that my husband is developing asthma, as it does get difficult for him to breathe sometimes.
