My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MILES: 1 Year Old Yellow Male Lab Neutered 65 Pounds

I was purchased from a breeder at six weeks by a very loving family who wanted nothing more than a family dog as well as a buddy to their 9 year old son. They certainly meant well and tried but I was not given the structure and boundaries that a new puppy needs. I am an active puppy who likes to be busy but with the wonderful training I have received by a trainer who was fostering me, I have learned appropriate behavior and I am a really good boy who no longer has behavioral issues. I have some great qualities but it will take someone who has raised Labs before to continue on this good path.. My previous family decided that after much determination to make it work, that I was not the right dog for their family and reached out to Lab Rescue to find my forever home. I love playing with dogs and went to doggie day care once a week.

Comments from Miles trainer/foster:

Miles has been more entertained since coming to me and loves playing with the other dogs so he doesn't have as much reason to occupy himself looking for ways to entertain himself (not always a good thing.) His prior behavior was probably just due to boredom and lack of correction/redirection. He is learning how to retrieve a ball. Miles is a quick learner, fiercely motivated and smart as a whip. A very active family is a must. Miles needs a job. Being young and active he cannot just lie around all day waiting for the next walk. He needs to be challenged mentally with some sort of activity, be it agility, nosework, rally/fly ball, learning tricks etc. He is housebroken. He sleeps through the night in his crate.

What Miles Rescue Rep is looking for:

Miles had been crated since puppyhood for 4-5 hours/day at his previous home which added to his pent up energy. Crating is good for him but not for that many hours on a daily basis. Lab Rescue is looking for someone with Lab experience who has raised a puppy, worked with a dog similar to Miles and understands the needs of these dogs. He does need some sort of "job." He is not a "take to work" dog. He needs an active family where he will be mentally challenged daily with LOTS of daily exercise. A tired dog is a good dog! Our current trainer/foster requires that a private trainer be brought into the new adopter's home (probably just a couple of sessions) to continue the training, structure and boundaries that she has set for him. Miles has prey drive so a cat free home is a must. He loves playing with other dogs so we would like Miles to make a great second dog (female) in a household with an appropriate dog (age, size, temperament.) Lab Rescue requires his owner to be around most of the day to continue this successful journey that he has embarked on. Because he is active and jumps on people, any children in the home must be teenagers and up.

Health:

Miles has had a well check, is neutered, is up to date on his vaccinations, is heartworm negative and is microchipped.

He is located in Mountain View.

If you are around most of the day, have Lab experience and are willing to work with this wonderful boy, please call Rescue Rep Sandy @ 650-303-2436.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
