Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Shadow: ~8-year-old black neutered male Lab 77 lbs
Found as a stray in Stanislaus county, we are quite shocked that no one came forward to claim this guy. Shadow’s resume reads like a fine middle-aged dog: great with people; great riding in the car; happy to hang and sleep in a crate; has a lot of energy; loves to fetch -- even drops the ball or toy in front of you; walks fairly well on leash (a bit out of practice, perhaps); loves the attention of humans; appreciates a good scratching; not a barker; knows “shake” (paws); fairly gentle mouth with treats. So far so good… but… he has shown some snarliness towards other dogs – but this may have been just due to his anxiety over his new surroundings… and not knowing his place in the pack. We’ve worked him recently with other dogs and he has done fine. His past inappropriate behavior towards other dogs requires strong, savvy, and committed human leadership in his new forever home. He is more interested in hanging with the humans, than hanging out with other dogs. Probably not an “off-leash dog park dog” – at least for a while. The equation is simple: human + ball = happy Shadow.
What Shadow’s Rescue Rep says: Shadow is in great health -- current on shots, microchipped, and neutered. The shelter put him at 11-years-old, but we think he is 7 or 8. He could to lose 5-10 pounds. He will fill some lucky family’s home with joy, fun, and love. He is currently in Petaluma.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
