Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Isn't Merlin just a gorgeous baby!? He was rescued when his previous caretaker was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer and could no longer provide the care needed for him. His previous person was his handler in the show ring- Merlin was a reserve champion show dog! We are told he comes from an excellent line of show Havanese.
Merlin is full of personality! He will brighten a room with his confidence and happiness! He loves attention and loves to be held and carried around the house!
He was just neutered, so he will "mark" his territory. Nothing that a belly band can't help with! He is a very good boy when being groomed. He loves treats- so he will be a fast learner! Merlin also loves to play ball!
Merlin does like to be around other dogs. He is not shy. He will bark to get your attention and let you know that he needs something! He will also follow you around the house. We are currently trying to teach him to go up stairs, he currently will just bark until you carry him up the stairs! Talk about a diva!
Merlin was born on 11-30-2011

he Havanese is the National dog of Cuba and its only native breed. The dog's journey to Cuba most likely was aboard the trade ships sailing from the island of Tenerife chronicled in ship's logs of the early sixteenth century.
Cuban trade was highly restricted by the Spanish, for many years allowing Tenerife to be one of the only open ports, and it would appear these little dogs who had found their way into homes of Cuban aristocracy developed without much outside influence.
Temperament
The Havanese are happy little athletes and loyal family companions. As therapy dogs Havanese bring smiles to faces in hospitals, nursing homes and libraries around the country. The Havanese is trainable and intelligent and possesses a naturally affectionate temperament, which making the breed an ideal family pet. Although a toy dog, they remain energetic and require some form of daily exercise.
