My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

It's hard to imagine this truly beautiful (inside & out) Cairn Terrier/Norfolk Terrier mix in a high-kill shelter in Houston. A compassionate Farfel's rescuer saved Rio's life and nursed his body and spirit back to joy and well-being. Farfel's Rescue spoke up for this sweet guy and adopted him out to a very special Denver area family (and a treasured Farfel's foster mom). Sadly, Rio's mom recently broke her hip and very bravely agreed that Rio needed a home with a more active and involved mom than she's capable of being at this point. We agreed to search for the most loving, nurturing and involved family for this amazing dog.

The following is a Houston foster report on Rio:

Rio is an amazing dog that's gotten tons of attention here in Houston for his sweetness with absolutely every living being! He loves to run and play outside...he has just the appropriate amount of energy for a 2 - 2.5 year old, 14 lb healthy pup. He would do so well with a family who is home a lot to hike and play with.. and run freely in the yard or at the park. He would be overjoyed! After Rio has had exercise and stimulation, he's ready to chill on the couch. Rio loves to snuggle, be petted and has been said to not get overly grumpy about anything. His gorgeous, non-shedding hair will require care...a periodic grooming and great nutrition with salmon oil would be perfect to keep his coat as beautiful as it can be.

Rio is great with other gentle yet playful dogs and cats (he cuddles in a dog bed with Willow the kitty and Tommy the Chi). We can say for certain that Rio will make a very lovable and fun-loving best friend. Whoever is lucky enough to adopt him is truly getting a gem!

Below is a report on Rio by his current Denver mom:
Rio is a very precious little dog. He is not hyper but has good energy and needs exercise.
Rio is house trained and walks well on a leash in his harness. He is completely trustworthy in the house when I leave him (unless he finds a box of Kleenex.. he will have such a good time pulling each one out).
Rio has been through training with a Boulder positive reinforcement trainer - Gigi Moss (gigimoss.com) but still needs a bit more training to reach his true potential. Rio wants so much to please and works hard at doing the right thing. He responds very well to gentle guidance. He looks deeply into my eyes as if to ask.. Is this what you want me to do?
Rio is very affectionate and very smart. He puts his little paws around my arm and hugs me tightly to let me know the level of his devotion. Rio gets along really well with other dogs and adjusted quickly to my cat. They even nap (cuddle) together on the couch.
Rio loves all people and is very good with gentle children. He is a true gem!

Farfel's Rescue will give priority to a family with another sweet, playful dog and a fenced yard. Rio would just be so happy with this arrangement. He'd also be great in a family with dog-loving kids who want a fuzzy best friend in their lives. Retirees who are frequently at home or would choose to bring a cute guy like Rio along would also be a great choice for this guy who wants so much to be a forever companion.

Rio is living in the Denver area. We are currently accepting inquiries and setting up Meet and Greets for Rio. If interested in this sweet guy who is full of love and personality, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com or fax to 303-443-7730.
