My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

LASSY is a 2 1/2 year old spayed female black Lab who weighs 48 pounds. She is a sweet shy girl who likes to be with you and to be petted and to be close to you. She would like a quiet home as everything is new to her and she is scared of new noises that she hasn't experienced before. Once she has heard them a couple of times she is fine. She recently went to a foster who has other pups and has started to come out of her shell when she is with them. Must go to a home with another dog as she is good with other dogs, played with some at the kennel and is doing well with her fosters dogs. No cat history. Knows sit, come working on down Okay on lead with an easy walk harness. Crate and house trained. She comes from the country and has no exposure to big cities. Placements is limited to single family stand-alone homes in a suburban neighborhood, or rural area. Lassy is approved for kids ages 10+.

Update:: The phrase “good things come in small packages” definitely applies to Lassy. Lassy may be on the smaller size physically, but she has a huge personality. She is such sweet, loving girl not only to her foster but to the other dogs in her foster home as well. She loves to run around the yard and play. While she can run circles around her foster siblings, she is quite gentle when she plays. She has even gotten her 9-year-old foster sibling interested in playing with her. She always seems to have a smile on her face which makes you want to smile too. She continues to be given free reign of the house while her foster is at work. She does fine with a lunchtime break each day. She likes to be close to her human and enjoys snuggling in the bed each morning. She is working on being comfortable outside of her foster home and yard and is improving.

Update:: Lassy is such a sweet, little girl. She has made a lot of progress since arriving at her foster home. She is very affectionate and will give kisses to her foster and the resident dogs. She takes treats gently and is doing very well with waiting her turn when treats are given to all of the dogs. She does not counter surf. She has learned the daily routine at her foster home and does well without being crated while her foster works (she gets a lunchtime outing each workday). Loud household noises (vacuuming, hairdryer) aren't her favorite. She gets very excited to go for walks. She quickly runs to the door when her leash and collar are taken, and she sits pretty while they are put on her. Even though she loves going on walks in familiar areas, she is very cautious and always on the lookout. She needs a family who will understand that she needs time to frequently stop and check her surroundings so that she is comfortable continuing to walk. Her playful puppy personality is such a joy to see. She “helped” her foster sweep the deck by chasing the broom.

Update:: Lassy has been in her foster home for a little over a week now. She has settled in nicely and is making progress in learning to trust humans again. Lassy is living with three resident dogs (2F, 1M) and gets along with everyone. She has quickly bonded with the youngest dog, a three year old, and they love chasing each other around the yard and wrestling with each other. Once Lassy comes out of her shell, she has a puppy-like silliness to her personality. She was not crated this past week while her foster went to work and did quite well. Loud noises still startle her, but she is improving. Her foster is continuing to work with her on walking because the world outside her foster home is still very scary to her.

Shelter manager says "Lassy was scared at the shelter and needs somebody to show her lots of love and patience. She likes to be petted and never showed any fear aggression. Lassy wandered up to a home in an area outside town that is known as a dumping ground for unwanted dogs.
