My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Who can resist these grins? This is Maria, one of a pair of 9 year old husky/shepherd crosses that were recently surrendered to New Hope. They were originally adopted at 4 weeks and raised with all kinds of pets and kids, so they are very friendly, loving and playful. They are strongly bonded to each other and to people, having been hand-raised the last few weeks that they normally would have been with their mother. Maria thinks she should be a lap dog, and loves to cuddle and to wrestle and roll around. For all of the big gestures though, she won't close those big jaws even slightly on a person. She is very happy to see people who come by, or her foster parents when they leave and come back. She enjoys car rides as long as her brother comes along, and she's very tolerant of the other pets in her foster home.

Maria has had some anxiety issues in the past, and she doesn't like going to the vet. As long as she can be with her brother, Phantom, she is pretty calm but he is definitely her rock. She will growl if she feels cornered but never snaps or bites. Maria seldom barks, and she likes to break up games that get too rowdy. She's used to being the dominant female dog, but she's actually giving way to the senior shih tzu in her foster home! Maria and Phantom are on diets, as they are both a little "fluffy" from the winter, and they're very healthy and active senior dogs. They do love the couch though... Please consider adopting this adorable pair together, and you will get double the joy! They really are a delight to have around, and any family will be richer for their presence
