My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Tom and his brother Huck came to us from a shelter where they were brought in as strays. Around seven months old, it is obvious they have been together for a long time.

These boys are definitely Border Collies/and or German Shepherd in personality and intelligence. They crave the human touch and just being near you. We feel there could also be some black lab in them. We feel they will be somewhere around 60 pounds when full grown, more or less.

Not knowing anything about a crate when they got to their foster home, they now crate on command without a peep for the night. Leash training is going very well though it is clear they didn't know what that was either. They want only to please and, with their smarts, learn very very quickly. They live in a foster home with a 10-month-old and are amazing with him (though they need to be reminded the baby is not a littermate and doesn't play the same way).

We are looking for homes where their new humans have experience with Border Collies or herding breeds. It would be helpful if you could include your experience if/when you apply to be an adopter for either of these boys. You can find the information you need to know and the link for the online application on the Adoption Process page of our website - throwmeabonedogrescue.org. Or, read on...

All potential adopters are expected to complete an application and provide pictures of their yard, patio, and/or balcony making sure we can see the fence line and/or railing. The application can be completed and submitted from our website - throwmeabonedogrescue.org - and is found under Resources. Applications will be reviewed for approval before setting an appointment to come meet and possibly adopt the dog of interest. In addition, those who live in a rental property are expected to provide proof that they are allowed to have a dog where they live.

Each of our rescued dogs has been de-wormed if necessary, de-flea'd (with topical treatment if old enough, and by medicated bath if too young), spayed/neutered, microchipped, is up to date on shots, and has been fully examined by a veterinarian. In addition, each adopted dog comes with a starter baggie of the food it has been eating, a few treats for training purposes, a rawhide chew, a lead and collar, and a folder containing pertinent records.
