Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Banjo: 3-year-old male yellow Lab 77 lbs
Watch Banjo's video by clicking on the link above the pictures.
Banjo came to Lab Rescue from the Contra Costa County Animal Shelter. He’d been found tied to a fence in downtown Richmond, and his owner declined to come get him. The shelter found him to be very excitable – almost all the time – demand barking, leash biting, and jumping and humping and all-around unbridled energy. However, after a short time with our own professional trainer/evaluator (properly handling him) at the shelter, he “started walking nicely with me (on leash), taking food and looking up to see what I was communicating.” Seems that this guy just needs some calm leadership and structure. We thought his original name Butterball was a bit unfitting, so we’ve renamed him Banjo.
What Banjo’s Foster/Trainer says: Banjo was very hyper and overwhelmed the first day he arrived at my home. He is very hormonal and would like to jump on everyone and have his way. With a routine of controlled walks, obedience, (Sits, downs, stays and recall work) and structure, he quickly settled into good behavior and a much calmer attitude. He does very well in a crate. He has calm settled behavior and sleeps in the crate all night. He is adjusting well in our home and does well with our two small breed dogs. He will be a great dog in the right home.
What Banjo’s Rescue Rep says: Banjo is an energetic teenager… and is currently in doggie boot camp – and responding fabulously per the attached video. He also just got neutered – that should cool his jets a bit. Banjo is a delightful youngster looking for an active home with solid human leadership. He will require obedience training with his new family. He could use to put on a few pounds. Banjo is current on his vaccinations and microchipped. He is currently in Petaluma.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
