My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi! My name is Toby!
I am a male, pure-bred Great Dane black and white dog.

I’m not sure how old I am, perhaps 2-3yrs old.

I am house-broken.

I like kids, especially older kids.

I get along with dogs.

I like cats.

I will go into a crate, but I do not like it at all. It frightens me. However, I do stay in the front room by myself, happily curling up on my dog pillow.

I know some basic commands.

This is what my foster momma has to say about me ——

No matter who you are, after Toby greets you for the first time, this is how you will be greeted thereafter. Toby is large, lovable and simply wants to be loved in returned. Toby had a difficult beginning. He was turned loose downstate and was found very near death wandering with another dog attempting to care for him.

While under my care, Toby has fully recovered his health and weight.

To see him is to see 150lbs of snuggle-worthy Dane. He is good with the 3 dogs in his foster home, but he had to come to know them slowly at first so he could learn trust again.

Toby does not want to lead a pack, he is happy to follow. He would be good a solo dog for someone who understands large dogs well.

Toby greets everyone with a giant bark and looks for the owners or other members of the pack to give the signals if this person can be trusted or not. If trust is given, Toby is in for snuggles, pets, and play.

Toby has not had much time with children, he has had time with teenagers. He enjoys people who enjoy dogs. Toby is not at all aggressive, he is simply unaware of his size due to lack of training.

This is something a forever home will need to work on, but Toby is happy to put in the effort as well. As stated, Toby is willing to follow – so teach him!

It is believed that Toby is between 2 and 3 years old. He has been very good around the cat in his foster home, so cats would not be an issue in a forever home.
