Steve seemed to have lost all of his faith in people at that point in his life. Usually cats succumb to my charms rather easily. Not Steve. He was a tough nut to crack. The toughest I have ever had. I’m a patient person though and was more than willing to wait him out. I let him come to me on his own terms. It took months and months of lying on the floor talking to him while he lay under the bed. I brought him treats…made slow eye blinks with him. After awhile he would venture out of the bedroom a few steps and sit and watch us while we watched tv. If we cast a glance his way he’d run back into his room. So when he came out we’d just pretend we didn’t see him. One night…that wonderful night…Steve came out and sat next to my chair. Before I knew it he jumped up and laid down on my lap and tucked his face down into my arm. Finally!!! He was worth the wait though!
What I have learned about Steve is that he loves people! Loves them! He is a total lap cat and will snuggle on a lap whenever he has the chance. He has only a whisper meow now…not sure what happened to that either, but he will tell you when he would like to be pet or when he maybe just would like to have a treat please. He is very playful. He is the oldest cat in the house and he likes to play the most. Steve doesn’t have any teeth left, which is kind of a bonus because he will never need dental care! He eats dry food just fine though. He loves canned food, and he gets that twice a day, but he does great eating dry food too. He also had a senior panel blood profile done and also had a thyroid test done just a few weeks ago and both came back perfect!
This old guy is more than ready to join a family. He is a true companion cat. With Steve around you will never be lonely. His love of people is in full bloom. If a playful lap cat who loves a good petting is what you are looking for then Steve would be the perfect cat for you. He doesn’t really care for other cats though. He would prefer to be the only cat in the house. He also would really like a a more quiet home and he is not a fan of young children. Steve still has a lot of life in him. Please give him a chance and visit www.KittyDevoreRescue.org to complete an adoption application. I promise you he won’t disappoint!
