My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

WARNING: Heart stealer...If you accept this mission and keep reading, the journey on which you are about to embark will change your life forever. If you meet Holly, you will fall head-over-heels in love, a place from which there is no turning back.

Holly is a 5-year old yellow lab/shepherd mix (with a stylish purple tongue). She has soulful, brown eyes that will melt your heart, and she would be a perfect dog for just about everyone (who will take her on long walks and include her as a full member of the family). Holly enjoys snuggling on the couch with her head in a lap, sleeping with or near her family, being rubbed and petted, and knowing that she is safe and loved. In return for all that, you will be the epicenter of her world.

Holly currently weighs about 65 pounds, but her foster mom thinks she gained weight while waiting for rescue at the shelter, and is taking her on long, fast-paced walks and working on slimming her down to about 60 pounds. Holly walks very well on the leash, and stays extremely focused on her human walkers to make sure she is following their lead. She even went for a couple of jogs and did GREAT.

Holly lives with two senior female canine foster sisters, and their rapport is respectful and sweet. They eat together, take walks and naps, and hang out. Although there is no active playing, Holly would probably be delighted to engage in some fun with a younger companion. There are no young kids or cats in her foster home, but we were told she is fine with cats and she is sweet to everyone she meets.

Holly fell in love with her foster mom (and vice versa) in the first 15 minutes after they met. Holly is now part of the family, and wants to be with her people at all times. Her foster mom has helped almost 100 dogs on their journey from shelter to forever home, so when she says Holly is one of the best dogs ever, that is high praise! Holly is very, very smart -- knows sit, stay, and learned to use the doggie door after only one demonstration. She has learned to move back from the front door when her family is leaving the house, and she LOVES riding in the car.

In case you are wondering why no one has made it their mission to adopt her: Holly came to us with Heartworm, and she will require two rounds of expensive treatment. The first treatment is scheduled for mid April and the second in mid May. For approximately one month after each treatment, Holly will be required to remain relatively sedentary (ie: slow-paced house and yard activities and short, slow walks only)....but then she will be good as new and ready to hit the trails again. Of course, all arrangements and costs for the heartworm treatments will be covered by Adopt A Pet.

If all this sounds too good to be true, it isn't. Holly is right here at Adopt A Pet, waiting to meet and fall in love with her forever family. Her adoption fee of $300 includes vet exam, heartworm treatment and follow-up test, distemper combo vaccination, bordetella vaccination, rabies vaccination, microchip, deworming, flea and tick prevention, heartworm preventative and spay.
