My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Do we have wonderful dog to introduce you to!! This is Keeva and she is a 9mth old German Shepherd/Husky mix. Keeva is happy, friendly, active and playful and is looking for a forever home where she will be played with, exercised, and most importantly, belong and be a much loved member of the family.

Keeva is a very good girl and has been a very easy dog for us to foster. She causes us no problems and has fit in here since the day we took her in. She doesn’t ask for much and is a dog that is happy to chew her toys or have a nap, after a good walk. Keeva loves her walks and will go as far and for as long as you would want to go. She needs daily walks as well as play time in a fenced in yard. She walks well on leash with the aid of a Gentle Leader head halter and on county walks or trail walks we put her on a Flexi Lead so she can have more room to move while still being contained. Because she is part Husky she cannot be trusted off leash at this point. She is a young and athletic dog so will need to get her energy out and be exercised daily but she is in no way a hyper dog. She is nicely calm and quiet in the home, but is perfectly capable of doing anything outdoors that you would like to do and will gladly accompany you on all kinds of adventures. Keeva is great in the car and will hop in awaiting adventure. She gets excited on the trip to places and will pant, but is nicely settled on the ride home, having had fun on her outing. We have also noticed that Keeva loves the water and on walks in the country where we live, she takes every opportunity to run through run off water in the ditches or puddles. She is an all- weather, all terrain dog who is in no way fussy and is very much a tomboy. The dirtier she can get the better for her. She loves to sniff the long grass for mice and explore everything she can. She is very busy on her country walks! If she ends up living in a subdivision she will need to be taken to wooded trails or on country walks to satisfy her love of great smells.

Keeva is very friendly and likes all people and greets people very nicely. We had her out at a pet store for a very busy meet and greet and she loved the attention and was so well behaved with everyone that came out to see the dogs. She is equally good with other dogs and socializes well and loves to play. Keeva would do great in a home with another dog, she would actually prefer to have a dog sibling, but if that isn’t in store for her then she would need regular play time with dog friends to keep her socialization up. Keeva is also being fostered with cats and is good with them. Keeva is not a brave dog so our cats keep her in line quite easily. Keeva is curious about the cats but has great respect for them. Although Keeva has a great nature, we are looking for a home for her with kids over the age of 10yrs of age. She is still very much a puppy and has rambunctious moments and could easily knock over a younger child accidentally.

Keeva is a very smart dog and has some basic obedience skills already. She knows “sit” and “down” and “heel” but is still working on her “come” command. She has selective hearing when it comes to this, as many teenage dogs do, so continued work on the “come” command will need to be done. We are working on this in her foster home. Whoever adopts Keeva will need to attend obedience school with her to continue working on her skills. She is very food motivated so a training facility that uses food as an initial motivator will work best for her. Keeva will do very well in dog school and advanced levels should definitely be considered with her, especially to work her recall so that she maybe one day could be off lead in appropriate places. Keeva is also housetrained and crate trained. She sleeps in her crate at night and is crated when we aren’t home. She is great at going in her crate on command and only asks for a treat be tossed in for being such a good girl.

Keeva enjoys the outdoors and likes to spend time hanging out on the deck, basking in the sun and surveying her domain. She will need a fenced in yard where she can safely enjoy hanging out and being one with nature while you are home. This does not mean that she should live outdoors though. Keeva is most definitely a house dog and needs to be in with her family. She is an independent dog and doesn’t need to be glued to your side every minute, but she certainly likes when you are around. Keeva will take all affection and cuddles offered her and she quite enjoys her cuddle time, but she doesn’t demand your attention and is happy to rest on her dog bed in a room you are in if you are busy. She really just is an easy, lovely dog to live with. Anyone looking for an all- around great dog should look no further. Keeva is a very special dog and we know she will be a great dog for an active person/family wanting a best friend and devoted companion.

All Pound Dog Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested, de-wormed (if required), and micro-chipped prior to adoption. The adoption donation of $400 is applied to assist in the costs of veterinary care and the overall care of the dog.
