My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

On Thursday 2/11 we received the "rescue only" list from Stanislaus County Shelter when we first came across the horrific image of the "no name" Bulldog mix. She had blood spilling out of her mouth, she was filthy and she clearly had trauma to her head. The description indicated that she was picked up as a stray and had been reported to Animal Control when people had been "shooting at her." You can imagine our surprise, what do you mean they were shooting at her?! We called the shelter, no response. We emailed the shelter, they responded by redirecting us to the email we were asking about in the first place! We tried again, "What does it say on her intake notes? What can you tell us about how she looks in person? What do you mean they were SHOOTING at her?!" Whoever was on the other end of that email was not much help. We realized that if we wanted to know anything, we would need to see for ourselves. We shared her photo with all of you and nobody stepped up to foster her. Lots of "we hope you save her" and "poor girl" but nobody who stood up and said, "I will help her!" So as you can imagine, we are still looking for a foster...and we are so sad that nobody is giving her a chance. "No Name', now Mabel, was picked up by one of our previous adopters and AMAZING volunteers, Nate. She would be transported from Stanislaus to Sac on Saturday. In the meantime we received a message from a shelter manager offering to help us. We called them back and coordinated to have Mabel brought to us, cleaned up and then transported up to Tahoe for a loving foster all her own!! It was to our great sadness to find out that she didn't go directly to the foster, Rather, she spend another night in the shelter, a new shelter, and was being picked up the next morning. We have NO HARD FEELINGS towards this facility or this wonderful person who wanted nothing else but to help Mabel safe after seeing the exact same treacherous photos that we first saw. BUT it didn't feel right to us. Pit Crew pulled her from a shelter and Pit Crew promised her she would never see the inside of one again...We thanked these kind people for their generosity and we decided we felt an obligation to Mabel so we picked her back up Sunday. She is safe and happy with us back with us and hopefully she will have a loving foster family soon. Just look at that smile! Mabel is a darling Bulldog mix and she clearly had been used for target practice with a B-B Gun. Nooooooow we get it! That's what they meant when they said, "she was being shot at." She has tiny holes all over her, most that are healing, but there are a few on her face that seem fresh. She has pretty bad wounds around her neck and on her legs that are healing as well. We also think she might have arthritis or maybe that's just how her joints move...we will know more once we get her to our vet and have x-rays done. Mabel is an affectionate, darling, sweetheart of a girl who wants nothing more than to sit on your lap and give and receive kisses! She is great with kids, good with other dogs and rides AMAZING in the car (she had quite the scenic trip this weekend, haha!).
