Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet tiny Oreo! He will be 2 years old in September and weighs about 7 pounds. We think he's a Shih Tzu and Maltese mix because of his soft coat and curly tail. His former owners, though, reported him as being a Shih Tzu.
Oreo is listed as special needs because he is allergic to dust mites, plus a few other things. Dust mites are his primary nemesis, though. He eats a special dog food from the vet that is designed for dogs with allergies, and is doing very well on it. Little Oreo's former family gave up on trying to fix his skin problem, so they brought him to the vet for euthanasia. The vet asked if they would agree to let him go to rescue instead, and they did agree.
We've had him for about a month, and in that time his skin has healed up and the bare spots have begun regrowing hair. Oreo has had allergy testing that indicates his main allergen is the dust mites, and he is eating a special food for dogs with allergies. His vet thinks that as long as Oreo is improving (as he is), and since we now know exactly what he's allergic to, that we should merely stay the course and not give him allergy shots. If he gets worse, he can always get them, but he seems to be improving steadily. The food he eats is expensive--$79 for a 17 pound bag that will last about 6 weeks.
The other thing you need to know about Oreo is that he will bite if provoked by pulling his hair with a comb or doing something that makes him afraid. For that reason we say *no kids*. Other than that, Oreo is a loving and darling little pooch. He is housetrained, quiet and non-destructive when left home alone. He would love to have a little dog pal to play with, but it's not necessary for him.
Oreo has been neutered, vaccinated and tested negative for heartworms. His adoption fee is $250.00.
If you are interested in adopting this cutie, please write us at PricelessPets4u@gmail.com and ask for an application to adopt. We are a foster-home based organization, and the adoption process starts when you submit your application. Once that has been approved, we can schedule a time for you to meet Oreo.
