Sumo is a 5.5-year-old Akita whose large size is not in his favour because of the upcoming birth of a baby. We do not have an exact weight, but he is estimated to be about 130 pounds. Sumo has never demonstrated any aggressive tendencies, and we were told he would not make a good guard dog. He likes being around people and has lived very harmoniously with cats. Sumo is active, good on leash, and enjoys going for walks (except when it’s raining). He is clean in the house, asks for the door when he needs to go out, and is used to being left alone uncrated while his family is at work. Sumo’s family had taken him to basic obedience when he was younger and he continues to listen well. It is a gross misconception that dogs Sumo’s age and even older cannot adapt to a new family. This big boy deserves a loving home with a family who will appreciate his size and nice temperament. An adopter with breed experience would be ideal but not necessary. Please complete an adoption questionnaire on our website if Sumo has caught your eye.
