My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

HERSHEY is a 7 year old neutered chocolate male Lab who weighs 66 pounds. Hershey has a lot of life in him! When the rescue volunteers did Hershey's evaluation, he was barking at first in his kennel. Then he calmed down. They put a collar on him, and Hershey stayed calm. He went out and did his business. The volunteers checked him all over, and Hershey didn't mind. One of them grabbed his tail, and Hershey turned around to see what it was but was fine. The volunteers tested Hershey with food. Hershey perked up when he saw the food, but he sat for it. The volunteers rubbed on him while he ate, and Hershey stayed relaxed and just kept eating. The volunteers took the bowl away, and he was fine. Hershey has no leash manners and pulls, so leash training and an easy walk harness will be good for him. The volunteers brought their male Pit Bull out. Hershey was whining and was a little anxious. He went to the male dog quickly, so the volunteers slowed him down. Hershey sniffed the male dog but was a little uncomfortable being sniffed by him. (He kept turning around and looking.) The volunteers brought their female Pit Bull out. She sniffed Hershey while he was peeing, and he just turned and looked at her. He also sniffed her. He also went to the female dog quickly, so the volunteers slowed him down. Hershey will need continued socialization with other dogs as he learns manners about how to interact with them. From transporters: Hershey is very friendly and handsome! He is active and looks healthy. Hershey loves tennis balls! He was a great passenger and alternated napping with enjoying the scenery during the trip. Hershey was a stray to the shelter, but no one came looking for him. He is approved for kids 10+.

Update: Hershey is doing great. He has settled in his foster home nicely. He wants to go everywhere with his foster family. He LOVES to be around people and is fine when left alone. At night he sleeps in he master bedroom and he is perfectly fine. As long as you give him a place on the floor and throw the occasional ball, he is one happy ball thief.

Update:: Hershey is looking forward to a life in a family who will give him everything he deserves. He was found in a rural area and has been adjusting to his new life. His leash skills have improved in the past weeks and he now looks forward to his walks. He does well with an Easy Walk harness. He was okay with the dogs he met at the shelter and prefers the mellow ones instead of the young ones in his face. He will need to continue obedience training. We don't know how Hershey is with cats. There's no kid history for Hershey, so he's approved for kids ages 10 and up.

Update: Hershey is looking for a family that likes to play. This beautiful 8 year old chocolate lab has personality galore. Friendly, loving and fun loving this young man is ready to make your house his home. Hershey loves walks on his leash, chasing his ball or just chilling at your feet. He is ready to go home with you!
