My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello, I’m Jimmy the Rat.. Terrier, that is. I’m a 3 year old, 20 lb, male cutie-pie with white, grey and tan markings. I’m quite the energetic little fella and need at least 3-4 walks a day or a lot of outdoor play time. My favourite activities are running, chasing, playing fetch, and chewing sticks. But I also like my down time and spend my leisure time at home cuddling and just hanging out. As if my cute face wasn’t enough, I also love to smile – and will do so if you just ask me to “smile!” I’m outgoing, friendly, and affectionate with familiar people and dogs, but a little standoffish around strangers. But once I get to know them (I warm up pretty fast!), my true nature comes out. I have lived with another dog my whole life and am good with adult dogs, but I need a home with no puppies, cats or young kids. That's because I am quite protective and territorial at times, and can get set off easily by hyperactivity around me.
I am in need for a new home because with the recent changes in my beloved owner’s life, she has found herself unable to give me the attention, time and care I need. She took me in after her sister could not care for me any longer and I have been with her since I was a puppy. However, due to some unforeseen circumstances, she is now living alone in a very, very small space and working very long hours. Although she would love to keep me she knows that this is not fair to me. She is willing to make the sacrifice in order to find me a loving forever home. As for me, I do not need much. A soft bed, a loving family, and an owner who won't leave me alone for long hours at a time. I also need someone willing to help me work with me through some territorial and protective issues I have, perhaps the result of being exercised too little and alone too much. I am protective of my food (so I should probably be fed by hand until this resolves), like to take possession of doorways (I know, weird, right) and may growl if someone tries to move me when I am sleeping. (I mean really, wouldn't you?)
I just had my teeth cleaned and am in very good health. I do have some food allergies which causes me skin irritation so my diet needs to be free of chicken or turkey. I am housetrained, neutered, microchipped, tattooed, and up to date on my date on my vaccinations. My adoption fe is $450.
