My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Bailey: 1+ year old spayed female Lab/Boxer mix, 63 pounds, is now available for adoption! See her new pictures!

Update on Bailey: Bailey’s leg is now on the mend!

It appears that the fabulous vet that worked on Bailey has been able to save her leg! There still remains some reasonable rehabilitation work, but she is definitely headed in the right direction, and is ready to go to her new forever home with a family who can continue her rehab and amazing progress!

This little cutie pie was out walking with her elderly owner when something attracted her attention and she bolted around the corner. Her owner heard her get hit, and then she ran back to him…which is truly amazing, because her leg was severely injured, so much so that the emergency vet told her owners that the best course of action was to amputate. The owners were devastated, and because they were financially constrained, decided that the best course for Bailey was to euthanize her. The vet could see that Bailey was a sweet wonderful young dog, with the possibility of a great life even without the leg, so she called Lab Rescue. We immediately transported Bailey to our wonderful vet, who, after several weeks of hard work was able to save her leg! Bailey is in a wonderful foster home where she is getting the medical attention and rehab that she needs to get back to normal.

Bailey is a typical puppy, with lots of energy, but she’s a very smart girl and getting along really well with her older foster siblings, who tolerate her kisses and play with her toys. She may be a Lab mix on the outside, but her soul is pure Lab: sweet, eager to please, smart…and that tail! She has the Lab tail that can clear a cocktail table in a single blow! Everyone who has met Bailey – the emergency vet, our vet, her foster, the rescue volunteers who are helping with her recovery – every last one has commented on what a great girl she is! And we want to find the best possible home for her, one that will commit to continuing to work with together with Lab Rescue until her recovery is complete.

Bailey’s rehab currently consists of regular daily walks of about 15 minutes. She needs the leash walking training that any puppy needs so that she will walk nicely and not pull. She is mostly using all 4 legs throughout the walk, and is able to put weight on the inured leg. She still has a few bandage changes in her future, but we hope that she’ll move past that soon.

What Bailey’s foster has to say about Bailey:

She’s been a wonderful houseguest and has quickly learned the daily routine in our home with our two labs and parrot. She’s a very good girl and aims to please. Being as smart as she is, she’s already learned “down” and she’s working really hard on “stay”. She’s excited when meeting other dogs and people and we are working with her on how to properly greet others so she needs someone who will continue this. She has love oozing out of her that she wants to share with you from the first blink in the morning until she finally fades at night. She is a puppy and still needs guidance in this wonderful world as well as someone who will work with her on leash skills. She is an absolute sweetheart and you can feel the love inside her when she gazes at you with those amazing brown eyes.

Although Bailey’s recover is not yet complete, we are looking for a home that can help her through the next stages of her recovery as well as the next stages of her life. This will be a home that will patiently give her the right amounts and kinds of exercise she needs until her rehab is complete, and that will give her the obedience training a puppy needs to develop into a healthy, well behaved Lab. Bailey is very respectful of the adult Labs in her foster home, and we think she would love to be in a home with an adult dog to show her the ropes.

If you are interested in adopting this wonderful girl and giving her the great home that she deserves, contact Rescue Rep Debbi at 408-613-2044 or dragonflydebbi@gmail.com.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
