My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi! My name is Roscoe (like from Roscoe P Coltrane from the Dukes of Hazzard!) and I'm a 9-year young Beagle! I'm 30 solid pounds and am a little pudgy. (we are working on that!) But that just means there's more of me for you to love! And boy do I love to be loved!

I was surrendered by my owners because they said I was "too much". I have no idea why they would say that because I'm a pretty chill guy. It was probably because I somehow managed to tear my cruciate ligament and I needed surgery. This is a common injury that is caused by sudden twisting of the knee, often during hard play. My owners didn’t do the surgery and left me with a very sore leg for a long time before surrendering me to a pound. The wonderful people at Pound Dog Rescue saw what a great dog I am and saved me! They got me all fixed up and I feel great now. I am so happy!

I am still recovering from my cruciate repair (that's a fancy word for knee surgery). I am slowly building up muscle and have started to go for short walks. I love, love, love walks!!! I need to be reminded of my leg otherwise I'd go for long walks! I can't wait to be all healed up so I can go for long walks! My vet surgeon has said that I am at the point in my recovery now that I can be placed up for adoption because I am doing so well! My new family just needs to follow the exercise program I am on, slowly building up the length of my walks. I can’t be trusted to be a good judge of this because I am feeling great and think that I am fully recovered and want to go walking forever. Because I am a hound dog, I am being walked with a harness. I really follow my nose and when I get a scent, I won't budge until I'm done smelling it. That happens a lot. I like to smell things. So a harness helps to "coax me" along. I can never be trusted off leash outside of a fenced in area as I get so caught up in smells that I would follow one and get lost very easily.

I really like when I meet other dogs on walks, too! I am a quiet and friendly dog when I meet other dogs. I always wag my tail! I am being fostered with a small dog and I like him. I would be ok living with another dog in the home, but it should be a passive and calm dog as I am past the age of wanting to play or wrestle with dogs. I much prefer meeting dogs on walks, even going on walks with other dogs, but then going home to rest. I like meeting other people too! Sometimes people will stop and pet me. I am very friendly and wag my tail. Then I also smell them. I like smells. I am also being fostered with these other animals called cats. I smell them, too. I don't mind them and they ignore me. I am looking for an adult only home or one with teen kids. I am a mature boy and like the peace of a quiet, calm household. I am great to meet kids out on walks and accept pets from them though. I would also LOVE a home with a secure fenced yard. I really enjoy sunning myself on the deck and surveying my domain out back. I love the freedom of sniffing around my yard and my foster mom likes knowing that I am safe and won’t wander off.

My foster mom figured out pretty quickly that I do NOT like being in a crate during the day. Or ever. I don't need to be in a crate when she's away because I am fully house trained. That's a big bonus when you adopt a dog that isn't a puppy! I am house trained, I sleep most of the day, and I don't chew anything. When my foster mom goes to work, she gives me a few treats on my bed. I've figured out the routine and just before she leaves, I run really fast to my bed because I love, love, love treats!! I like food of all kinds!

I am learning my manners when the humans cook and eat food. I was probably hand fed food before I was rescued so I tend to come close to people when they are making food. I don't want to miss out on anything if it drops to the ground! But I'm learning to go out of the kitchen and just watch from afar. I still watch though. Very studiously.

I don't like the car. I mean, I really don't like the car. I get very stressed out and I drool. A LOT. So I am looking for a person or family that likes to be at home and isn’t expecting me to be a great traveller. I love human company so I'd really like to be with someone who is around the home more often than not. I'm very good when my foster mom goes to work for the day but I am happier when the humans are home. I am pretty quiet at home. I only bark when someone comes to the door and not for very long. I love when more humans come over! They give me belly rubs! And I smell them!

So if you're looking for a mature, sweet boy that likes to go for walks and will be a great companion around the home then come and check me out! I am eagerly anticipating all the new smells that will come with my forever home!

All Pound Dog Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested, de-wormed (if required), and micro-chipped prior to adoption. The adoption donation of $400 is applied to assist in the costs of veterinary care and the overall care of the dog. For more information and adoption applications please consult our website at www.pounddog.ca.
