Here's what the humans have to say about me:
MEET DORA -
This sweet, beautiful lady finds herself in need of a new forever family...her previous humans have found themselves in circumstance which no longer allow them to care for her. Please help DORA find her new forever home.
Dora is a 7 y 10 mo. female, spayed, smooth coat, black and gray dapple that has epilepsy controlled with medication. She weighs 13.8 lbs. About a year ago she started having elevated liver enzymes. We did a biopsy and all is fine but she is on medication as well for this. Dora had an allergic reaction to immunizations once and got swollen and itchy. She was rushed to a vet ER and treated. So we always pre medicate her with benadryl before her shots. DORA is up to date on all vaccinations and is microchipped. Her teeth are in good condition and she has had regular doggie dental care.
She has a great little personality and is a very loving dog that doesn't really know she is a dog sometimes. Dora likes to crawl up on your chest and get right in your face to snuggle. She LOVES to dig at the beach and will dig trenches if you tell her to “dig, dig, dig”. She will dig a little in a yard but never too much. She is house, crate, car and leash trained. She enjoys going for walks and rides in the car....She loves squeaky toys, bully sticks and using the living room as her own race track. DORA knows basic commands and went to a few obedience classes.
DORA will do best in a family with a stay at home parent (work from home or retired) and only older children (over age 12), who are familiar with the special needs of Dachshunds.
Like all Dachshunds, DORA is high energy and enjoys playing and warming her little bones in the sunshine, so along with regular walks around her neighborhood, DORA needs a secure fenced yard to run around and explore safely. While small in stature, doxies are big on personality and don't generally do well in apartments, with all of the noises and traffic that come with multiple dwellings in a confined space. To best set up our doxies and their new families for success, ODR, Inc., adopt to families who live in single family homes with secure fenced yards.
OUR CRITERIA (aka The Fine Print):
Based on 30 years of experience with rescue doxies, we have pretty strict criteria. Do you work from home/stay at home/work part time? Have a securely fenced yard? We do not place same gender dogs in a home unless they were raised together, and children need to be 10 or older (some exceptions IF the dog is a puppy or the child has been raised with a doxie). We prefer non smokers and a home with no other small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc) Cats are on a case by case basis depending on the dog. Remember, these are rescues; many were surrendered because of these issues.
WHAT YOU GET IN RETURN WITH YOUR LITTLE RESCUE:
All our dogs are fully vetted, including spay/neuter, rabies, DHPP, Bordetella, Pyrantyl, nails trimmed, and dental when needed. They'll come with a basket of goodies, food, toys and a custom made harness. The adoption fee is $395, sorry no exceptions, as this covers the cost to rescue them, vet them and take care of them while in our rescue. It also helps towards the care of other doxies that come with huge vet or dental bills or need extensive behavioral training.
Can you give DORA a happy, carefree life that she deserves? If interested, please complete the adoption questionnaire at www.odr-inc.org and email it to: jrangan@comcast.net. The adoption committee will attempt to be in touch with you within 48 -72 hours. Please be patient as we are solely volunteer run.
