My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

HUNTER: 2 year old year old yellow male neutered 60 lbs.

One of our volunteers found Hunter on Craigslist. She wanted to make sure Hunter was adopted out to a home where he would be part of the pack and not just stuck in the backyard, so she reached out to the owner. The owner had to give him up as the city told the owners they had too many dogs and Hunter had to go. The volunteer went and picked up Hunter from the owner and this is what we know about him.

From the foster mom:

Hunter is a very handsome boy. He is house broken, knows basic commands, uses a doggie door and is fine with other dogs. Hunter is a spunky 2 year old – loves to play fetch, retrieves and brings back the ball and is obsessed with playing tug of war. Although he can be a typical 2 year old lab, he quickly calms down when inside the house. He will bark when someone comes to the door but quickly calms with commands. Hunter has been an inside dog all his life. He has not been crate trained and does not like being in a crate. I am working with him on this but he is fine when left in the house alone with my 2 other labs. He is a messy drinker (what lab isn’t) but Hunter will put half his face in the water bowl when he drinks. (He does love the water.) I live out in the country on acreage and take Hunter for a few walks a day off leash with my other 2 dogs. He does tend to wander, as he has always been on a leash with his past owners, so being off leash with lots of new sniffs is all new to him. He does pull when on a leash but responds to commands. He has never had a correction collar used on him and he does well without one. (If needed a gentle leader can be used for him.) He responds well to commands. I make sure he knows I have treats in my pocket when we go on walks. He is NOT a hunting dog, (see photo of him under my desk when he heard a gunshot) – nor is he an outside dog - he is afraid of gun shots and loud things like a lawn mower. At first Hunter was leery of my two 8 year old labs but quickly warmed up to them and cries if he can’t find them. Hunter is by my side24/7 and I feel he would be best suited with someone who can spend a lot of time with him and is home all day – not someone that works. I do not know how he is with cats. He is fine with a small dog but wants to play and given his size, he could overwhelm a dog that is too small. He plays good with my labs but they are 8 and not interested in playing too much as Hunter can be a bit rough with his play.

Hunter is a bit unsure of things and he will bark at new things, including people. When he is told no he will stop. We feel Hunter did not get out much from his previous owner and he needs a home that will work with him on his confidence.

We want a home for Hunter that can work with him on his confidence, a home where someone is around a lot of the time, a home with other dogs is fine, we are not sure about cats, a home that can get him plenty of exercise and a home that will continue his training. A home with kids would be fine as long as the kids are 10 and over.

Hunter is a very healthy boy. He is neutered, he has all his shots, he is on regular heartworm medication and we will get him microchipped.

He is located in Escalon.

If you are interested in making this nice boy part of your family call Rescue Rep Liz at email liz@jobshopsf.com.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
