My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello, I’m Roxie. I’m a 7-8 year old little lady weighing 61 pounds. Life has been hard for me recently, and I must say I’m relieved to have a safe, warm place to stay. You see, I have been what you call a “stray” for several years now. I hung around a trailer park and though people saw me every day, no one could ever make room in their hearts and homes to take me in as one of their own. I don’t want to appear to be ungrateful, because I am truly grateful for every ear scratch and scrap of food I have been given and I try to never, ever be demanding. There was a nice elderly couple who fed me regularly and would even let me come inside during bad weather. They were kind to me and became concerned for my safety when new neighbor moved in and threatened to shoot me. Because of this, a rescue was finally called and I came to AGB. AGB can tell I have not been well cared for. My eyes are a little cloudy, my teeth are worn and need a good cleaning, and worst of all, I’m heartworm positive. I don’t mind telling you I had almost lost all hope. But my AGB friends have lifted me up. For the first time in a very long time I am being loved and cared for properly! The doctors are helping me feel better and giving me the medicine I need to get well. They say good things about me; like that I am sweet, pretty and gentle. I love human contact and a good scratch. I will nudge you ever so gently if you stop petting me too soon because it feels so good to be touched. I have great eye contact and they even discovered the tricks I learned back when I was a pup; things like walking on a leash and “sit” and “come”. AGB told me to rest now and concentrate on getting well. They said their volunteers will work hard to find a forever family for me so I will never, ever be “stray” again. If you’re looking for a loving, gentle girl to walk through this thing called life with you, I hope you will come meet me. I look forward to meeting you soon, your friend Roxie.
