Facts about Kinsey

  • Breed: Domestic Shorthair
  • Color: Brown Tabby
  • Age: Adult
  • Sex: Female
  • Hair: Short
I was born in 2011 and somehow this past January I found myself unexpectedly living on the streets. I was cold and scared. Someone found me and took me to a local veterinarian’s office. They agreed to take me so I could find a new, safe home. Then they showed me to the AWLMC who took me in hopes my special person would see me at their cat house. The shelter volunteers say my cycle is "play, flop, repeat"! You see when I am really happy I will flop on the floor and roll all over. I love to play from inside my nylon cube at the shelter. The feather wand and laser pointer are my absolute favorite toys. It is so much fun to 'stalk' my toy. I will jump up in your lap or beside you for attention, but prefer that you don’t pick me up. I am a “four on floor” kind of girl. I purr and give you head butts to show I love you. Sitting in the window watching the birds and squirrels is a favorite pastime. I am an active, curious girl looking for a fun home to call my own. I need to be the only pet though. You see I am a princess and want my home and human all to myself. Do you have room in your heart and home for a girl like me? I am ready to settle into my new home now. My bags are packed! Stop by soon.

About Animal Welfare League-Montgomery County

About Our Shelter...

As many of you may already know, we have a mission: To enhance the lives of Montgomery County Maryland residents and animals through programs directed at education, adoption, animal shelter, and low cost spay/neuter. The AWLMC is committed to ending the euthanasia of adoptable animals in Montgomery County Maryland. With this in mind, we are partnering with the county shelter to help save the most at-risk animals. Currently, we are only working with cats. We hope to be able to add a dog program soon.

In order to save as many cats as possible, we have opened a no-kill shelter in Gaithersburg. We need your help in the form of direct financial donations and by volunteering your time. Our organization is strong and full of highly dedicated volunteers of all ages, backgrounds, professions and abilities. We are working together to save the lives of cats and kittens, to find them loving, forever homes and to have them spay/neutered. All of our cats and kittens are spayed or neutered prior to adoption.

We are the Animal Welfare League of Montgomery County.

Our Adoption Process...

All members of the adopter's household should be present at the adoption.

For all adopters who rent their home, we must see a copy of the adopter's lease or rental agreement showing that pets are allowed.

Current adoption fees: $75 for adults (cats over 1 year old) and kittens.
All of our cats and kittens are spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccinations and microchipped. We currently accept only check or cash.

Potential adopters are required to fill out an application and to be interviewed by an AWLMC adoption counselor.

We can request home visits or vet checks prior to approving anyone for adoption.

Upon approval, the adopter must sign an adoption contract.

Adopters must have proof of ID (a driver's license or other government issued identification).

We will follow up on our adoptions which can include e-mails, phone calls, home visits, and vet checks.

These rules are subject to change.
