My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

It's hard to imagine this truly beautiful (inside & out) Brussels Griffin/Shih Tzu mix (we're just guessing on her breeds based on the Texas vet's guess.. whatever the mix..it's great!) in a high-kill shelter in Houston. A compassionate Farfel's rescuer saved Janet's life and nursed her body and spirit back to joy and well-being. It's now getting to the time when Janet is ready to be transported to her new life in Colorado. Although it will be terribly hard for Janet's Texas foster mom to say goodbye...she knows that she will have a great life. The following is a description of Janet by her Texas foster mom:

--Janet is such a sweet dog just waiting to blossom. I've enjoyed watching her learn that the world can be a loving and positive place. Janet had a hard start - but now she's learning about treats, belly rubs and that she's a very valuable pup! She may very well be initially shy, but just give her a moment and you'll have a new best friend. Janet absolutely loves me! I have 5 kids between 9 and 15..she's never mean or aggressive but just not particularly interested in them...maybe she's too busy adoring me :-) As far as other dogs..she's fine but doesn't require that relationship to be happy.
I've taken Janet out and about in the car...her behavior isn't terrible but she's not a huge fan. She's kind of a homebody who loves her home, her yard and her family!

Janet loves to lie outside in the sunshine. She has the appropriate amount of energy for a 2ish year old, 7 - 8 lb healthy pup (perfect size and age for a family dog--she's beyond babyish ways yet young enough for some play and walks). She would do well with a family who is home a lot to stroll and play with and make visits to the neighborhood park - she would love that! After she's had exercise and some stimulation, she's ready to chill on the couch. Janet loves to snuggle, be petted and has been said to not get overly grumpy about much of anything.

It is Janet's love affair with life and all the hardships that she's suffered along the way that motivates us to put Janet through Heartworm treatments..her precious life deserves to be saved! Janet has tested low HW+ and Farfel's (with the help of Dr G in Denver) has volunteered to save this very special dog's life. The heart worm treatment process involves several shots followed by a short period of quiet time for the dog. We have found this protocol to be very successful and the dogs go on to live long, happy lives.

We are seeking an adopter to lovingly care for Janet as she becomes Heartworm negative. It's quite an easy rehab process as it only entails mellow time with soft words and belly rubs. Farfel's will pay the vet bills and provide premium food and treats for this special pup as she becomes healthily heartworm-free.

Janet is a truly smart pup - true to her breeds. She appears to have the rather mellow and friendly traits of the Brussels Griffin while carrying the fun and sometimes silly qualities of the Shih Tzu. What a gem of a best friend for a family who wants to include a very cute and sweet dog in their life. Janet has the potential to be a truly exceptional and loyal companion.

Janet appears to be a non-shedding girl and will therefore require periodic baths/brushing with grooming and great nutrition to keep her coat soft and shiny. Farfel's is very excited to participate in finding this special and beautiful dog her forever family.

Janet will be arriving on transport in Boulder on Friday 5/13/16. We're currently accepting applications for this friendly and kind best friend. If interested in a sweet and cuddly lap-dog, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com or fax to 303-443-7730.
