My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

My name is Clara! I am very special because I have helped out a lot of people. I am a retired research beagle (that just means I was used in biomedical research), and now I have been given the chance to be adopted as a pet and learn what life outside of a laboratory is really like!

I only have 1 kidney. (I was used to help in kidney transplant research! Wow!) Just like people, I am expected to live a normal and healthy life with just one kidney, so I hope this makes me even more special in your eyes! I don't need special medications or food or anything - just a loving home to show me what life as a loving housepet can be!

Foster mom calls me a jumping bean! I jump 2 ft off the ground when I am excited to see you, or am excited for my meals! I LOVE to give kisses. A lot of things in the world still worry me, though. I tend to run away from new experiences, and I am not sure about so much...I like the company of other dogs, and look to them for how I should react to things, but I do not yet know how to play with them. I am cratetrained and housetrained to a schedule, and just need someone to help me build my confidence. I have a beagle voice and know how to use it :) so apartment/townhome dwellers need not apply. My ideal home would be calm, quiet, and have another friendly beagle for me to play with. The movements of very young children (and unexpected movements and noises of adults) frighten me terribly, so I will not be adopted to a home with young children.
