Important Note

Spooner the Crooner, Shar-Pei is best friends with Miles Alirio, Stunning Hound. Please adopt both of them so they can stay together!
Spooner and Miles are exceptional dogs. They have to be inside, but with a lot of day time out doors. Spooner's linage goes deep. His Halden Hound traits are exciting: The Halden is similar to the American Foxhound in appearance although it is smaller. Haldens stand between 17 and 21.5 inches at the shoulder, and weigh approximately 40-55 lbs. They have smooth, very dense coats, hanging ears, and are white with black patches as well as brown shading on the head and legs. They are strong dogs with rectangular bodies and straight, solid backs. The tail is fairly thick, carried low, and hangs down toward the hocks. The skull is slightly domed with a pronounced stop and a straight nosebridge. The cheeks are flat. The ears are pendulous and curled, and the eyes are dark brown and kind. The nose is black. Breeders of Haldens aim for a particular foot shape, with high, tight, long toes and dense fur, for greater stability and warmth as the terrain they hunt through is often snowy and difficult to navigate.

Temperament
The Halden is a loving and an affectionate pet as well as a good hunting breed. They are said to be good family dogs and to behave well with children. Haldens are hardy and energetic, able to bear cold weather and maintain a quick pace for extended periods. They do best in homes with large areas to play or owners who provide extensive exercise. Prolonged periods of inactivity can cause them to become restless and unhappy. The Halden does not hunt in packs, as many hounds do. They are bred to hunt alone with their owner.

And his Shar-Pei side is fascinating: All Shar-Pei puppies need early socialization with children, strangers, and other animals. Some people may experience a sensitivity to the harshness of the coat of either length. This is a mild, short-lived rash that can develop on the skin that has been in contact with the coat, most commonly on the forearms.

The Shar Pei is often suspicious of strangers, which pertains to their origin as a guard dog. It is a very independent and reserved breed. Nevertheless, the Shar Pei is extremely devoted, loyal and affectionate to its family and is amenable to accepting strangers given time and proper introduction at a young age. If poorly socialized or trained, it can become especially territorial and aggressive. Even friendly and well-socialized individuals will retain the breed's watch dog proclivities (like barking at strangers). It is a largely silent breed, barking only when it is playing or worried. The Shar-Pei were originally bred as palace guards in China. Although Shar-Pei are sometimes stubborn, they are receptive to fair, compassionate training. With repetition and a clear reward system, training is not very difficult, however they do not respond well to negative and cruel treatment. Overall, the Shar Pei can be a dog that is loyal and loving to its family while being very protective. Shar-Pei do not like to be alone, preferring to be close to their humans, often lying nearby in the same room.

So with Miles being a Pharaoh Hound, and Spooner a Halden Hound/ SharPei you will have the Best Looking and Most Unusual Dogs ever.

Please call 909-208-6889 for an appointment to see them. These two young dogs are the best.

And on January 6, 2011, we opened our Animal Sanctuary, a place where dogs in danger of being put to sleep will be sheltered and loved until we can find them new and safe homes. We also committed to taking on dogs with medical needs too, so their lives can be saved.

We are always looking for volunteers to come be part of our program, and foster parents for so many of our dogs brought to us in crisis, and we will be allowing rescues to attend our events with a small fee charged.

All our blessings to everyone who loves our animals. It is your voices that will make the world a better place for these voiceless souls.
