Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Izzy was an adorable little pup who was rescued as a baby by our organization in 2008. (see her pup photo). She was a very popular one on our website at that time, with many people wanting to adopt her. We matched her up with a nice family with a young daughter, and she went off to her new home.
FAST FORWARD to 2016...Izzy's family contacted us and wanted to turn her back over to our organization. She had been injured by their pointer-pit bull terrier mix several times, and had some very significant wounds that required intensive care each time. The daughter is now a teenager and soon to go off to college. They decided to keep the other dog, and surrendered Izzy back to Houston Beagle Rescue. (see pitiful "cone-head" photo on the day she arrived at her foster home with multiple gashes and puncture wounds).
Izzy is nearly 8 years old, has a beautiful soft tri-color coat, silky long ears, weighs 25 lbs, and is approx. 14 inches tall at the shoulder. She is heartworm negative, has now fully recovered from her wounds and has only a few barely visible scars. In 2012 and 2013, she had separate knee repairs which do not bother her at all; in fact, she can jump up on the sofa and the bed quite readily, and can run the full length of the yard in a hurry if a squirrel appears at the opposite fence! She is not much of a player, but will occasionally play chase with one of the other senior beagles. She does not look nor act like an older dog.
This adorable little "senior" is a delightful, happy, well-trained beagle. She actually comes when she is called, which is not a common trait in a beagle. She is perfectly house-trained, crate-trained, uses a doggie door, and walks very well on leash. She has learned to love car-rides with her foster family. Road-tripping with the beagle pack is now one of her very favorite activities, especially if we stop for burgers and fries or drive through the bank where they send out treats along with the deposit slip!
Senior beagles make great companions! Izzy is a loyal friend who will follow you from room to room and will then settle in on a chair or a dog bed, quietly hanging out nearby. She enjoys some good pets and a few words of praise, but she does not need constant attention. She will be a great addition to a quiet household! We will need to "approve" of any other dogs in a new situation, due to her past trauma. Her adoption fee is $150.
