My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

CASPER is an 11 year old neutered yellow male Lab who weighs 73 pounds. After a decade of service as a guide dog, Casper ended up at a rural shelter, the victim of mandatory retirement, whose family apparently elected to not keep him, which is probably fortunate for him since his care was definitely sub-par. Welcome to the new life that you deserve, Casper! This guy just loves butt scratches, ear scratches, belly scratches, but he isn’t overbearing about it. He travels in the car better than kids and most adults. He is perfectly happy just laying around, but we wish he’d try a dog bed instead of the hard floor. He likes marrow bones but doesn’t seem interested in toys yet. After his vet appointment, since they were closed, he was allowed to wander around the office while they wrote him up and got his meds, with the required breaks for loving. He doesn’t show any signs of arthritis and just hopped up into my SUV- he may be eleven, but he could easily pass for seven! Oh, and did I say he is excellent on a leash? He really enjoys his walks and just doing dog stuff. He was confused by a harness, probably because it didn’t feel like the one he had worn for work for a decade. He is approved for kids 10+. More info soon!

update: Casper has been the perfect house guest! He has done great with the resident labs and all other dogs that he has met. Don't let his age fool you - he does not act like an 11 year old. He loves to play with toys! He runs in the back yard with the crew, but the most important thing to Casper is getting loved on - he loves his people! Butt scratches are a must for this hunk. He is just stunning and perfectly behaved! He is excellent on leash and crates like a dream.
