Facts about Puppy

  • Breed: Cattle Dog/Pointer Mix
  • Color: Merle
  • Age: Puppy
  • Size: Med. 26-60 lbs (12-27 kg)
  • Sex: Male
When Puppy first came to live with us, he couldn't eat his food fast enough. The shelter listed him as around 11 months but, I'm sure he was younger. He was extremely timid and shy, and wouldn't even step out of his crate during the three hour ride home from transport. He was curious and inquisitive though. He warmed up quickly once I introduced him to the toy basket! %81S Now, his favorite thing to do is raid it! Every opportunity he gets, he runs over, tips it over, and proceeds to remove every single toy, running from one to another, playing and pouncing with each one until he is exhausted! %81S Puppy was picked up in San Antonio, TX as a stray and was very afraid in the shelter. But during the nine months he has been with us, he has blossomed into the happiest and friendliest dog I've ever met! All he wants to do is PLAY! He has learned 'no' and 'come' and listens very well. He is crate trained and house trained but, being a youngster needs his family to pay attention to his sometimes subtle cues about going outside. Because he is young, we would advise he remain crated when his family is away for short periods, at work or school. He will eagerly sit for a treat and, is very smart and willing to learn and please his family. His personality can't help but make you smile! He is dog and person friendly, although he takes a minute to warm up to strangers. He has not been cat tested but, given his fun-loving personality, I doubt he would every deliberately harm any animal. Although, his rambunctious behavior may accidentally hurt another so, we would advise that supervision and caution be taken during introductions and play time. Puppy knows his name and earned it because of his fun and playful personality. He was dubbed Carl when he was at the shelter but, it's way too serious for him. He is about 43 pounds and around 16' tall. He is probably a mix between a hunting type dog (maybe a Beagle, although his doesn't act or sound like one - other than running with his nose to the ground), and perhaps an Australian Cattle Dog, Mini Aussie or Australian Shepherd - based upon his color and markings). He is now approximately 18 months old and on his way to being an obedient but FUN dog! Puppy has earned a very special place with us and I'd love to keep him for myself but, he deserves so much more time and attention than I have available to give him. He is great to have around though as, he is part of the welcoming committee and makes the new fosters feel right at home when they come! Other than being committed to giving him the best life, loving him forever, and being his best friend, Puppy's only requirements for a new home include a fenced yard. He is young and LOVES to run! It would not be fair to expect him to remain leashed all the time, at least not while he is so young and full of energy. Please email if you are interested in adopting Puppy and forever making him a part of your family. We require an adoption application, references, home check and adoption contract. His adoption fee is $325, and he is up to date on vaccinations, HW negative and taking preventative, dewormed, neutered, and microchipped. Each adoption is considered on a case-by-case basis, depending on the dog and their requirements as well as the family and their circumstances.
