My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Bentley is a 17 month old strikingly handsome black Dane with natural ears and a gorgeous shiny coat! His beautiful golden eyes will melt your heart instantly. This is one sweet affectionate boy who gives the best Dane hugs and Dane nibbles. He just loves to rest his big ol head on your shoulder when you are sitting down while you pet him. He is not a leaner but craves attention from his humans. He is a follower and will follow you wherever you go. It is so endearing. He loves to watch you cook or unload the dishwasher. Whatever you are doing, he is very curious about it. Bentley has had no training but his foster home is working with him teaching him basic commands and manners. He is a quick learner, is extremely smart and is food motivated given he likes the treat you are using. His favorite is diced chicken. He will do just about anything for it! He needs a very strong leader who is firm with him and teaches him boundaries. He will bulldoze over you if you let him but aims to please so that is a plus. Bentley's foster home has crate trained him in just a few days after he arrived and he has done very well. Still working on his whining after someone has arrived back home. He sometimes makes a fuss at first but then settles down and is not let out of the crate until he is quiet. He is doing better and better with this each day. He is still learning what is expected of him. Sometimes he is completely quiet when someone comes back home. Bentley is also house trained. Bentley is very energetic and must have an adequate amount of daily exercise. He will need a fenced in yard for sure to run, play and burn off his puppy energy. He also adores other dogs and would do best with another large female Dog that is close to his size. He does play very rough so it is important that he is placed with a dog that can withstand his play style and energy level. Bentley can be very vocal at times especially when he wants to play with another dog. He barks and does a "play with me" growl. Bentley is thin and needs to gain a bit of weight but with his recent food change we believe he will achieve that in no time. He seems very healthy and has never had any medical issues. Bentley has previously lived with a hairless cat and did well, but in his foster home he is not doing well with the resident cat so he will not be placed with cats. Bentley has lived with younger children and does very well with them however if he goes to a home with other dogs he will need to always be supervised when around children because of his excitement around other dogs. He does not pay attention to what he is doing and could accidentally knock over a child. When Bentley is not around other dogs he is calm as can be but other dogs make him very excited. Because of his excitement and energy level he will only be placed with children 8 years old and older. In his previous home Bentley was left alone with no other animals many days for 12 hours or more so we are sure he will settle down some once he realizes someone will be around more. This boy is a gem! With some formal training he will excel. A basic training class will be required after his adoption. Bentley was recently neutered and will be available for adoption once he is all healed up.
