My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MEET DANNY -

Danny is a rare Chocolate and Butterscotch colored longhaired Dachshund puppy. He is a 19 month old, 14.5 lb Tweenie (AKC with no papers). He was just neutered and fully vetted. DANNY is a happy go lucky kind of guy with an absolutely great personality. He is very smart, comical and eager to learn. Danny also gives out lots and lots of kisses. Danny came to Oregon Dachshund Rescue, Inc because of a family situation where he was somewhat neglected so he needs work on his potty training. He was not surrendered because of abuse or being harmed, etc - they just weren't able to care for him very well. DANNY will do best in a family with a stay at home parent (work from home or retired) and only older children (over age 12), who are familiar with the special needs of Dachshunds and possibly a gentle, spayed female Dachshund...but absolutely NO CATS! Like most Dachshunds, Danny has a strong drive to hunt, so cats and other small animals aren't a good mix. Having said all of that, we really want you to know that little DANNY is a very special little guy. He is funny, handsome, regal and strong.

Like all Dachshunds, DANNY is high energy and enjoys playing and warming his little bones in the sunshine, so along with regular walks around his neighborhood, DANNY needs a secure fenced yard to run around and explore safely. While small in stature, doxies are big on personality and don't generally do well in apartments, with all of the noises and traffic that come with multiple dwellings in a confined space. To best set up our doxies and their new families for success, ODR, Inc., adopt to families who live in single family homes with secure fenced yards.

OUR CRITERIA (aka The Fine Print):

Based on 30 years of experience with rescue doxies, we have pretty strict criteria. Do you work from home/stay at home/work part time? Have a securely fenced yard? We do not place same gender dogs in a home unless they were raised together, and children need to be 12 or older (some exceptions IF the dog is a puppy or the child has been raised with a doxie). We prefer non smokers and a home with no other small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc) Cats are on a case by case basis depending on the dog. Remember, these are rescues; many were surrendered because of these issues.

WHAT YOU GET IN RETURN WITH YOUR LITTLE RESCUE:

All our dogs are fully vetted, including spay/neuter, rabies, DHPP, Bordetella, Pyrantyl, nails trimmed, and dental when needed. They'll come with a basket of goodies, food, toys and a custom made harness. The adoption fee is $495, sorry no exceptions, as this covers the cost to rescue them, vet them and take care of them while in our rescue. It also helps towards the care of other doxies that come with huge vet or dental bills or need extensive behavioral training.

Can you give DANNY a happy, carefree life? If interested, please complete the adoption questionnaire at www.odr-inc.org and email it to: jrangan@comcast.net. The adoption committee will attempt to be in contact with you within 48-72 hours. Please be patient as we are solely volunteer run.
