My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

SUNDROP is a 7 year old spayed yellow female Lab who weighs 58 pounts. She is easy going and loves to be with you and get attention. She may be 8 years old but has the energy of a 4 or 5 year old. She had a pretty rough life prior to coming to Lab Rescue and is enjoying the care and attention she is getting now. She likes to retrieve, is easy going with other dogs. She would love a home where she can get some TLC to make up for her earlier life. A yard so she can retrieve then take a nice nap in the sun would be wonderful. . Good with other dogs. NO CATS, will chase them... Knows sit, shake come working on down. Pulls on lead as she has never been on one, okay with an Easy Walk Harness. May be crate and house trained as she waits to go outside to do her business. Sundrop comes from the suburb and has no exposure to big cities. Placements is limited to single family stand-alone homes in a suburban neighborhood, or rural area. Sundrop is approved for kids
ages 10+.

Update:: Sundrop's (we call her "Sunny") life has completely changed since coming into the rescue. Although Sunny is 8, she doesn't realize she is and acts more like a young dog. Sunny really has a "sunny" disposition and always seems to be smiling...even when she's on her back, you can see her pretty little teeth smiling back at you! As you can imagine, anything indoors was a mystery since she was an outdoor dog for her entire life. She likes attention and to be with you. She has now mastered the stairs (we have 14 between our 1st and 2nd floor) and is completely housebroken. Sunny loves her breakfast and dinner and is not food-aggressive at all despite the fact that we're feeding 3 dogs simultaneously. She is crate-trained and we use it when we'll be absent for longer periods of time. A toy and treat get her in and she doesn't peep while in it. We don't crate her when we're gone for short periods of times (2-4 hours) or when we're asleep as we're trying to build her up to not needing the crate. We gate her in our bedroom at night and leave her crate open in case she would like to sleep there (sometimes she does and other times not). She loves chomping on her toys and adores destroying her rope toy!
She currently lives with 2 very tolerant black labs (females - 1 is 9, the other 10). She doesn't need to go to a home with another dog,. Sunny is still learning appropriate indoor behavior and will mirror the resident dogs' actions and activities.! Because she so wants to please, she has mastered sit, come (unless completely distracted) and down (might have to say a couple times). We're working on stay because, to Sunny, stay means stay with you! Although we don't have a cat, we'd recommend she go to a cat-free home (or one with a very savvy cat); she tracks and chases the backyard squirrels which has prevented them from digging any further in our backyard, which is a good thing. If you're looking for a new best buddy, Sunny's your gal!

Sundance was raised as a breeder dog for the first 6 years of her life and always lived outside. When the breeder decided he didn’t want her anymore, he gave her to a family that was looking for a dog. They were together for 2 years who kept her outside then decided she couldn't keep her any longer. Local Animal Control told her to contact us to see if we could help rather than turn her into the shelter. Carin says she is very, very sweet and loving and much too much energy for an 8 year old. She knows sit and shake, but doesn’t have a clue on the leash.
