My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

"Kiedis" is a stunning, 5-yo (born 4-20-11) neutered male GS who is loyal, affectionate, intelligent and protective--a true GSD! Kiedis is a traditional German-line GSD, with an impressive pedigree and a thick coat with a deep reddish-hue (not displayed well in the photos here). Both of Kiedis' parents were AKC registered and had hip evaluations from the Orhtopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA)--"excellent" for the father and "good" for the mother. These documents and pictures of Kiedis' parents are in a binder that will be passed on to Kiedis' adopter(s).

Kiedis is fine with strangers on neutral ground, but was a good watchdog in his original home. It will take Kiedis awhile for his protective instincts to emerge once he's adopted, though. Kieidis was adopted in early August, and never once even barked at anyone at the door during the 11 days in his new home. Unfortunately, his adopters had to return him to GSRSV due to asthma problems with one of the adopters. (This man would be happy to speak about his positive experience with Kiedis to any prospective adopters.)

Kiedis is great with other dogs, both large and small, and was a regular visitor to the dog park with his original owner. He was perfect around several dogs in his evaluation visit at GSRSV's rescue ranch. (Click here for a very short video.) Kiedis has never been around cats, so I will only consider a home w/out cats for him.

Kiedis is fully housetrained and behaves perfectly inside. Kiedis is clearly a very smart dog. He obeys basic commands quickly even though he never had formal obedience training. Kiedis loves to go on walks and is very good on leash--he is non-reactive towards other dogs that he sees.

Kiedis' former owner Amy and her ex-husband purchased Kiedis from a breeder at about 8 wks old. Amy's ex-husband was more in charge of Kiedis than Amy was, but she ended up with the dog. Because Amy was unfamiliar with dogs and somewhat intimidated by Kiedis' size, she ended up keeping him outside after she had a baby. Kiedis eventually started barking at Amy's baby through the sliding glass door, no doubt out of frustration at being kept outside. However, it made Amy nervous and she did not have much time to spend with Kiedis anyway. So, she sought GSRSV's assistance in finding Kiedis a new home.

GSRSV originally took Kiedis in at its rescue ranch on June 29, then again on August 14. His adoption fee is $210.
