Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet TUCKER -
TUCKER is a small smooth coat auburn colored neutered male Standard Dachshund (AKC with no papers) weighing in at approximately 19 1/2 lbs. We believe he is about 9 years old and his in good health. He is all up to date and on vaccinations and has had a recent full and thorough dental cleaning! Due to medical problems in Tucker's human family, they are no longer able to care for him and have asked Oregon Dachshund Rescue, Inc to help him find a family to live out the rest of his forevers with.
TUCKER is house, leash and car trained and does well with other dogs, Tucker knows basic commands (sit, stay, lay down, shake) and he loves to play fetch with his stuffed bear! He can also speak and say 'mama', if you know the hand signal that needs to be made, while you ask him to say it. TUCKER will do best in a family with a stay at home parent (retired, work from home) and only older children (over age 12) who are familiar with the special needs of Dachshunds. Tucker could do well with a spayed, female companion, but due to his size, his female friend would need to be similarly sized (large tweenie/standard).
Here is what his foster mom has to say about TUCKER:
Now that I've had Tucker for a few days and got to know him, I thought I'd share a few more things about him. He is crate trained and has slept all three nights in a crate and never made a single noise. He loves the squeaky toys and especially likes to play fetch with them. It did take a couple days and a couple sniff/snarl/bark sessions to get comfortable with my other two dogs. He is so good taking a bath, just stands there and let's me wash him. He is definitely food motivated, however, will wait for the release word. He loves walks and is an absolute gem in the car. He has the most amazing little wrinkly legs. He is so cute and will make a wonderful loyal companion!
OUR CRITERIA (aka The Fine Print):
Based on 30 years of experience with rescue doxies, we have pretty strict criteria. Do you work from home/stay at home/work part time? Have a securely fenced yard? We do not place same gender dogs in a home unless they were raised together, and children need to be 12 or older (some exceptions IF the dog is a puppy or the child has been raised with a doxie). We prefer non smokers and a home with no other small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc) Cats are on a case by case basis depending on the dog. Remember, these are rescues; many were surrendered because of these issues.
WHAT YOU GET IN RETURN WITH YOUR LITTLE RESCUE:
All our dogs are fully vetted, including spay/neuter, rabies, DHPP, Bordetella, Pyrantyl, nails trimmed, and dental when needed. They'll come with a basket of goodies, food, toys and a custom made harness. The adoption fee is $250, sorry no exceptions, as this covers the cost to rescue them, vet them and take care of them while in our rescue. It also helps towards the care of other doxies that come with huge vet or dental bills or need extensive behavioral training.
Can you give TUCKER a happy, carefree life again? If interested, please complete the adoption questionnaire at www.odr-inc.org and email it to: jrangan@comcast.net. The adoption committee will attempt to be in contact with you within 48-72 hours. Please be patient as we are solely volunteer run.
