My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi, I'm Benny, a 4 year old Shih Tzu mix. I am currently in a foster home where I am learning many good doggy behaviors. I get along with the other dog in the house and the ones at the dog park. I have not been tested with cats yet, and I will be good with children over 10. I am crate trained during the day and overnight. I do well in the house and rarely have accidents anymore. I love to play fetch, and then take a nap on your lap! I also love going for car rides; it makes me sleepy and sometimes I take a nap. I would go everywhere in the car with you if you'd let me. I can be a sweet boy but I need a home that will be firm with me and continue to enforce the boundaries. I am good at sharing my toys, but sometimes I find other treasures that I think are mine, and those I do not like to share with anyone! I am learning this is not acceptable and I am improving. I was so spoiled by my previous owner that I think I am a baby. If I could be the boy for you please fill out an application today.

****My adoption fee is $325.****

The Animal Rescue Project (www.animalrescueproject.org) is committed to the best possible veterinary care for the pets it rescues and it is looking for adopters who will be similarly committed.

All dogs and puppies are given a general check-up when they enter our program. They receive medication to remove any intestinal parasites (worms), fleas, and ticks they may have. Dogs greater than six months of age are checked for heartworm. If heartworm positive, the Animal Rescue Project treats the disease. Dogs and pups receive all age-appropriate vaccinations for distemper, and dogs greater than four months of age are also vaccinated for rabies, in compliance with State of Michigan laws.

Most dogs and older puppies are spayed or neutered before adoption. In the case of puppies not old enough to be safely sterilized, a $25 deposit is required at the time of adoption and is refunded to the adopter with proof of sterilization.

The Animal Rescue Project requires every adopter to establish an active relationship with a veterinarian no later than 10 days after adoption. Adopters will receive a plan for routine veterinary care at the time of adoption and are expected to work with their vet to complete the plan.
