My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Luna: ~5-6 year old spayed female yellow Lab, ~ 68 pounds

Are you looking for blonde, beautiful and cuddly? Do you like to play? How about a nice long walk in the park or even a jog? Do you have the time to hang out with me, play with me and wear me out? Then I might be the dog for you!

My family adopted me from a rescue adoption fair. The rescue group (not Lab Rescue!) had me in a crate that was too small, and baking in the sun. They took me home and made me part of their family, but their other two dogs weren’t happy that I had joined the pack, so they pick on me constantly. Sadly, my humans decided they were concerned with my safety and contacted Lab Rescue to help me find a new home.

What Luna's Rescue Rep says:

Luna is a delightful dog! She’s a young 5-ish years old, with a lovely yellow coat and lots of energy. She loves to go on walks, and she’s a great cuddler. She gets along well with other dogs (the other two dogs at home are the problem, not Luna) and with cats. She does jump up when excited and she has the height of a gazelle when she jumps up for her dinner (see video). She gives gentle kisses and has lovely teeth!

Luna is housebroken, crate trained, and prefers sleeping in her crate at night (probably to keep those other dogs away!). She knows some commands: Sit, Stay, Down, Come, Fetch. She takes treats pretty gently.

We’d like Luna to go to a family where she is the only dog; we think she’s had to deal with cranky canine pack members for long enough! She can get her canine contacts through play dates, the dog park, doggie day care, or friends with dogs that come to visit; she doesn’t need to have a resident dog, although she would do fine with one that is nice to her. Luna needs an active family, who will take her on long walks (an hour or so) EVERY day. She would probably make a great jogging partner too. We would recommend that Luna’s new family take her to training, to help her learn to walk on leash without pulling, and to calm her jumping on people when she’s excited. This should be a fun and bonding experience for Luna’s new family. Her new family can include children over the age of 8 (due to her size and energy level and her tendency to be a little mouthy when her hind quarters are touched). Given that she is crate trained, and views it as her safe place, we’d like her family to commit to continuing with the crate for her. We’d also like a family where someone is home most of the day; Luna is not used to being alone all day, so a family where the adults work full time will not work for her.

The most important thing we want for Luna is an experienced, loving, committed home that will give her the time and training she needs. An active family that can consistently give her the exercise she needs is a must; a tired dog is a good dog!

Luna is spayed, current on vaccinations, heartworm free and on preventive, and micro-chipped. Luna is located in San Jose.

If you have the time, energy and experience to work with a sweetheart like Luna, and are interested in making Luna a part of your family, call Rescue Rep Debbi 408-613-2044 or email dragonflydebbi@gmail.com.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
