Nikki's Story...
Nikki is probably one of the most unique mixes we have ever seen. She has the head of a shepherd and the body of a bassett, go figure! And she has beautiful reddish colored fur down the middle of her back. Nikki is very affectionate and social with people. She was found as a stray with another female dog. She is not a good match for young children as she will guard things she believes to be hers. Come and meet this interesting dog!

All dogs at our shelter have been started on a vaccination program, de-wormed, treated with Revolution for fleas, spayed/neutered and microchipped. The adoption fee for a dog is $150. Free event T-shirt with each adoption while supplies last! If you are a PA resident, you will also be required to purchase a dog license. There are 2 licensing options : annual licenses are $6.50 and are renewable every January. Lifetime licenses are $31.50 and never need to be renewed.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Nikki, a Honesdale German Shepherd Dog/Basset Hound dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a German Shepherd Dog/Basset Hound for sale in Honesdale, or seeking a German Shepherd Dog/Basset Hound dog from a breeder in Honesdale.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Honesdale already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Honesdale breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even German Shepherd Dog/Basset Hound breeders who help with German Shepherd Dog/Basset Hound rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Honesdale paves the way for another one to be saved.
