My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Updated Bio - 6-20-16 Maxi is an absolutely adorable 3-year-old Shih Tzu mix, possibly Yorkie, boy. He weighs about 12 pounds. Maxi is being fostered in Leesburg, FL. Maxis' adoption fee is $395 and includes all vetting (neuter, dental cleaning, immunizations, microchip and chip registration). A Vet reference, personal references, and home visit are required for adoption. You may apply to adopt Maxi by going to our website at www.unitedyorkierescue.org and completing the adoption application located on our home page.

Maxi is the sweetest, friendliest dog. He got along with the other dogs in his foster home the minute he met them and he wanted to play with them. He loves toys and will play tug with the other dogs, or he will be happy playing with the toy by himself. He will drag a doggie blanket around and try to make a little net for himself to nap in.

From the first day Maxi arrived, he allowed his foster mom to clip the hairs around his eyes and to clean under his eyes. He even let her put drops in his ears. In fact he was so sweet he turned over on his back for a belly rub while she was putting the drops in his ears. There is no question he is a loving, sweet, friendly dog, who loves people mostly, but also likes most other dogs who are friendly and playful. Maxi does not seem to be bothered by the cats and pretty much just ignores them.

Maxi loves his crate and will happily sleep in there all night. He will sometimes, during the day, take himself into his crate for a quick little rest. He is great in the car and he is a super eater. He will clean that bowl before you can put it down and walk away. He walks nicely on a leash.

Maxi does have allergies and will sometimes sneeze. He is given either a Zyrtec or Benadryl tablet and it seems to clear it right up. He will occasionally scratch himself but the Zytrec helps that too. He likes to get a bath and the soothing aloe and oatmeal shampoo helps and calms his skin right down. Occasionally some hydrocortisone spray will also help. This appears to no longer be a big issue with him since getting the over the counter medication.

The only not so great thing is that Maxi is not totally house trained. He will still have accidents in the house. He will do most of his business outside, but he sometimes forgets. He does have on a bellyband in his foster home and that has stopped his foster parents from having to clean up after him, but he is learning and they believe with time, patience, treats, and being taken out often he is young and he will get it. No matter, because his cuteness and sweetness makes up for any anything about Maxi that is not so perfect.

Maxi is already up to date on all his vaccinations. He is neutered and heartworm free. He is ready for his forever home. Maxi would do great in a home with another small dog, or as an only dog. He would be fine with kids over the age of 12. This pup is about perfect. If you want a fluffy, ball of fur to love and to love you back, this boy is the one for you. Fill out an adoption application and make Maxi your special fellow.
