My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello out there! My name is Willy and I am mighty pleased to meet you! I am a 30 yr old Yellow Naped Amazon. No one is sure, but me, whether I am a boy or a girl, but my foster family thinks I might be a boy. I guess, if I lay an egg, they are wrong, huh? In the meantime, though, I have not laid one, so we will go with boy.

I really like apples and I bet if you offered me other fresh fruits and some healthy nuts like almonds or walnuts I'd like those too. I need veggies in my diet as well so some other good things to try would be chop, and fresh, raw veggies as yummy snacks. Please remember that avocados are deadly and peanuts can make me really sick.

I like to play with my bell, hang upside down, chatter and talk. I have been heard to say "I love you", "hello", "bird", and I do whistle. I'm not really what you would call loud, either. I will step up onto your arm when I am away from my cage. My previous owner of 30 years was a man so I guess you could say I prefer men, but I seem to do ok with women. I am also ok with other birds as long as they stay off my cage. My cage is MINE!

My foster family tells me that I am "defensive" over my cage, and that I don't need to be because they aren't going to take it away from me or harm me while I'm in it or on it, but I don't understand exactly what they mean. I MUST protect my home, it is really all I still have! Even though they tell me I have a wonderful new home now, with lots to eat, lots of toys and lots of love to experience, my cage has been the only constant thing in my life lately and I may lunge at you while I am on it and even bite. My foster family is working hard to teach me not to be so defensive of my home, but it will take some time to learn. I have been used to doing this for many years. Habits can be broken, it just takes patience and time.

I am a sweet boy and have the potential to be a wonderful, loving companion for the right person. I will need someone who is experienced with amazons and who will take the time to work with me using force free behavior modification. I will also need to be in a home without young children. With, time, patience and love, anything can be overcome! Please come and meet me and let's see if we can make things "click" between us! If you would like to send me something from my Amazon wish list, here is the link:

Hope to meet you soon!
Love, Willy
