My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

“Sandy” is the name of this 45#, 2 year-old rough coated collie with the smile in her eyes. Sandy lived with an extended family before she came here to us but she lived in an out-building and not in the house with her humans. When she arrived at her foster mom’s home, she was confused and overwhelmed. Her perfect little collie feet had never walked across a kitchen before and she gingerly planted each foot before moving the next one. By the second day, she started to trust that we would not eat her and would sniff a hand if it was offered palm upward. In two weeks, she has learned that biscuits are great when they are soft or crunchy and beds are for watching movies and snuggling. She has had all of her vaccines, been spayed and microchipped. Housebreaking has been a bit of a challenge but we are 90% there. Sandy is a light-boned collie and moves easily and quickly. She flies through the backyard playing whatever game the resident dogs have planned. I have seen her come to a screeching halt and have to jump over another of the dogs as she threatened to crash into them. She can clear an adult male rough collie and a Saint Bernard mix with ease. What a sight to behold! Because she is used to being with her littermate Aggie, we would like to place Sandy with another dog for company. She likes males or females and shows equal attention to large or small pooches. We have no idea about cats. Herding dogs need to be a part of their pack and that is what we provide for them. Hopefully, the humans are the alphas. Please read the adoption information section on our website at www.pueblocolliesheltie.org and then continue with the process by submitting a completed application if we seem like the right kind of rescue group for your family. As a breed specific rescue, we receive multiple applications for each dog and work hard to match the right dog to the right humans. Toward that end, we are pretty selective when screening applications and require a fenced yard, a wonderful vet reference and a home visit as well. Some people want to point to a dog and say, “I will take that one.” We don’t function that way. Our process has been fine-tuned over quite a few years and it works for our purposes. You will just have to trust us on this.
